Why can't they get it right?

OK - sorry about yet another moan about MB services but I have to get this off my chest.

Took car in to local MB service agents for an electrical fault which was quickly diagnosed and rectified at reasonable cost. However, in the process they decided to reset the door (there was nothing wrong with it) and it now springs open when released and requires the strength of Mike Tyson's right arm to close it from the inside. It is visibly mismatched when viewed from the outside!!!! Unfortunately, a special tool is required to release and reset the catch (any idea where I can obtain one?).

If this wasn't enough, I asked them to measure tread wear on the rear tyres which they duly did and informed me that they needed replacing. No problem there and we agreed on a price for replacement tyres of the same specs. I stupidly didn't think to check the tyres on picking up the car and it was only after a noisy drive home that I checked and noticed that they had been replaced with an inferior make!!! Unbelievable.

Given that this is my first encounter with MB service, it may just be a one off but its got me thinking that maybe I've been spoiled by 15 years of impeccable Honda service. Also, why is it that Honda can rustle up a courtesy car within a day but MB have a 2-week wait?

The standard setting for doors is that the back edge is 1 to 1.5 mm proud of the next panel, to stop wind noise. Is not the adjusting screw a standard torx.

Thanks for this info Malcolm - they've actually given it this much clearance but in the opposite direction - basically a heavy-handed solution to what should have been a switch replacement for the interior light!

I think you're right about the tool required but I'll give them a chance first to rectify the error.

OK I understand now that they adjusted the door to make the light switch work, if it was that critical the repair wold not last long. its better to fit a pad on the door to close the light switch.

Hate to say it but going to the dealer for tyres is probably the most expensive way of doing it. Find yourself a good indie tyre dealer and barter.
Did you agree a tyre make with the dealer even verbally? if so take it back and get them changed.
