Why is it so hot?

Hi,

I wonder if anybody else has experianced this problem, i have a 5 speed auto merc c180 97 which recently started to become really hot at the gear selector and the surrounding area, including the radio cassette, fascia heater control panel and the footwells of both the passenger and driver side. All feel hot to touch.
I have also noticed a small amount of leakage around the gear selector.
Any idea what causes this and a solution possibly.

Sara - whereabouts are you located? My advice would be to take it to a local independant MB specialist and get them to check the g'box fluid levels and seals and maybe even check the cooling system for possible leaks (heater matrix maybe?). How is the gearchange in the car apart from that - still smooth with good response in the kickdown or has it played up at all lately?
