Why should a Merc squeak and rattle? It is not French, is it?

Subject is wise words from karlefr on this thread:
http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?t=37795

Sadly, my SLK does have a few rattles: :(

- The little 'wings' that fold up behind headrests that forms the roof cover when the roof is down rattle a bit
- The (empty) glove box rattles when closed, even though it is firmly seated
- The dash behind the left hand side of the steering wheel below the instrument cluster rattles/creaks

The car in every other way appears to be in great condition (my father checked it out before I bought it, with many years in the motor trade), so I'm wondering if this is standard on the SLK (obviously with more moving bits with the roof), or it's something that I could look at resolving..

Any suggestions?

My 05 SLK350 does have some occasional squeaks which seem to come from the roof parts rubbing together. If I hit a bump in the road there are a few more noises inside the cabin but I put this down to the firmer sporty suspension (and try not to hit the bumps!).

the 171 slk are known for roof squeaks, we use a rubber spray whick works really well, just spray up the rubbers around all the sills and you should find a differnce in noise!
