Hi all,

I had a problem with my parking brake, where it had stopped working due to something popping out of place - I have managed to fix this by opening the panel under the steering wheel and getting to the parking brake. I also sprayed some GT85 on some of the parking brake mechanisms to allow it to come back up faster. Once I have finished this, I have noticed the bonnet open sign remains on, I cannot use any of the navigation buttons on the left side of the steering wheel and also the wipers are not working. I can't navigate to anything on the trip monitor as it only shows the sign that the bonnet is open. Under the steering wheel panel, there was the bonnet releasing mechanism which I put back in place, the OBD port, a light and another connector which I'm not sure what it is for. I put everything back in correctly - but I'm a bit confused as to what I may have messed up. I have also opened the bonnet a few times and closed it firmly - the release lever is also operating correctly.

Does anyone have an idea what the problem might be or where I should be looking?

Thanks in advance!

Wipers won’t work with bonnet open (or with bonnet open warning)

I’d be checking under the dash for dislodges connectors

Thanks. I will take a look again inside there.

Did you disconnect the battery before you started disconnecting and connecting cables.

Retrace your steps.

I didn’t disconnect the battery before disconnecting these cables. There were only two cables that I know I disconnected. One was for the footwell light, not sure what the other was. Then I removed the bonnet lever from the panel cover but didn’t disconnect any wires and also removed the obd port. Will check again now to see if there is anything disconnected.

I’ve had a look and there’s definitely not anything disconnected. The hood release mechanism seems to be working fine and there doesn’t seem to be any other wires related to hood release under the steering wheel.
I did open the bonnet by accident when starting off remove the panel and left it released for quite a while. (1-2 hours) before closing it. Doesn’t seem to have registered that it has closed since.

Is there a way to override this as my wipers are half up and I don’t think I’ll even be able to drive like this.

Hi
That must be the one.
When you take it out, please take a picture of the top and bottom of the relay.
Also a good idea to wipe the pins clean with some Acetone, let dry and then reinsert.
Also, make sure the key is not in the ignition switch.
