Have had this E320 CDI AG Estate for about 6 months and it has run well.
It is a W Reg 2000 car.

In the last 2 months or so I have become aware of what I can only describe as a woofing noise when I pull away under light load. Initially I actually thought it WAS a dog barking. Then I gradually realised that this dog seemed to be at every junction!!

As I accelerate lightly it goes wuff wuff wuff (3 or 4 times). If you accelerate hard you don't get it at all. Power seems unaffected but the woofing is getting louder and more frequent and I can now feel a pulse in the power now as it woofs!

Can anyone explain this phenomenon. Is it an injection issue or is it the turbocharger?
Any suggestions gratefully received.

I have no answer to the problem you describe........however your message did make me smile

Perhaps you need to take it to the vets!

You could have the turbo checked, I recall that turbos have a dump valve to release excessive pressure, perhaps yours is dumping air early? If it sounds like air woofing, then think of everything that uses air pressure, cruise control, turbo, ect, Also does it do it when you rev the engine in PARK/NEUTRAL. If so do it with the bonnet up and see if you can locate the noise.

This is not a smart question, do you drive with the window open a lot? You get a lot of engine and tyre noise reflected off roadside walls, other cars etc and you get that sound when you pass a gap such as a gate. I have the same but only hear it driving off slowly and much more prominent with when driving with windows open.

And dont send me to the vet, mines a 320cdi too.
