Hello,
Just bought my first ever merc.

Its a 1993 (september) W124 E class 300 diesel in lovely condition for under £1500.

I would like to buy a workshop manual & went to Halfords to buy a Haynes - But according to them, Haynes never published a manual for this model as it is the 124 body with the newer engine.

The book they sell only covers the old engine & to be fair, after reading the blurb on the back of the manual, it does state this fact.

So- anyone know where I can get hold of anything relevant?

thanks,
bobi

AFAIK there is no manual available. The Haynes manual for the earlier cars is relevant 90% of the time but, being a Haynes manual, it's only correct about 90% of the time. Bear that in mind when following their instructions

The major differences between the older & newer cars are trim, wiring and engines. In my experience the wiring diagrams can only be used as a general guide

Stick to the forums. You'll learn far more. Apart from pulling engines and transmissions apart, you'll find just about everything here and on the other MB forums.

The W124 E-Class Owners Bible has an enormous amount of useful information, photos and diagrams, especially as the OP has not owned an MB before. Just an example: a complete run down of all the water drains, with photos. Comprehensive pics of the suspension, brakes, auto transmision, etc. Service schedules, and comprehensive servicing guides. Just the job for a new owner. Yes, the forums are a great resource, but not in isolation. Have you read the book in question? It's well worth the money.
