2005 CL500.
Go to 225/55 or 245/45.

What does your handbook say?

You can't change the tyre size without changing the wheel size !!!! As above check your handbook or inside the fuel filler cap
They are both 17 inch tyres so would fit on the same wheels. I am not suggesting they would work on the car though as they are a very different diameter.

So could I get away with 225/55

Seems to be more available in this size
Compared with 225/60

The correct size for 320 cdi S class 1999 to 2006 is 225 55 17 or 225 60 16, my car runs 225 55 17, recommend Uniroyal rainsport 3. Do not buy budget tyres thet are not worth the trouble on your car.

Sounds like 225/55 x17 is the size you need to look for. Just double check you have 17 inch wheels.

A word of warning about Tyreleader, I've used them three times and only once has it been pleasant.
If anything goes wrong, there is no office to visit or even a phone number to call. Their website runs a ticket service where you open a complaint and wait for them to get back to you, possibly a week or more later if they're busy. Very frustrating experience if they don't get it right first time. I ordered tyres last week and the wrong size was delivered, had an email saying it was being investigated and then nothing since.

Ok. Thanks for the heads up on tyre leader
Just checked and the tyres appear to be 16 not 17

So it looks like I need 225,/55 R16

Look at the tyres currently on the rims, if they say "17" at the end, (as you say in a post above) then you have 17" inch rims.

Some models will have both sizes supplied depending on trim spec.

Some tyre sites may not list all combinations, DO NOT BUY 16" If your current tyres are 17".

Camskill are one of the best prices around, recently bought my RS3 from them 225 55 17 for £150 including shipping, they are available by phone or online for next day delivery.

OMG...this has happened before. When you want advice about tyres take the time to go out to your car and write down what it actually says. You have wasted our time with the wrong information and thus got the wrong answers.

If you have actually got 225/60 16 tyres on at the moment they are correct.

Yep , I get that , I understood from the op's first post that he "didn't like the look" of the 60 depth tyres and wanted to go to 45 . I was hoping to explain that you can't just fit what you want :D

Everyones time is precious, we only have a limited amount after all. Best, before asking a question, to get the facts right first so that you dont get incorrect information. Have you determined the size tyres on the car already as thats a good starting point.

Dont buy budget tyres.
I always had premium tyres on my new cars, and so continued when they needed new ones.
I always wondered was it all hype? etc. After all rubber is rubber ;)

I inherited budget tyres on this one.
Very scary in the wet! I could make them break adhesion by just coughing!
