The finance scheme for my C250TD (50K miles) runs out in 46 days time. Ok, ok so I was dumb to take it out in the first place, but I did, and now here I am.

I can either buy the car from MBZ for 11K , or I can give it back and get something else (no not another make!).

I see there is a company in london called the Great Trade Centre, which seems to sell pretty much every kind of car going including MB's.

They have a number of C220 CDI's (yes I know another diesel) which look reasonably priced, but the worry is that these guys also sell cars that have been smashed / rebuilt / recovered etc etc.

Has anyone bought a car from these guys, or heard anything good about them?

Getting an inspection done on any potential car goes without saying.

cheers.

I see that "Great Trade" place on autotrader a lot, from what I remember they always use "library" type pics for the cars they're selling too, not that a matchbox sized pic is enough to make a decision on anyway.

I can recommend getting the AA to inspect the car, they inspected mine before I bought it.  After I test drove the car  I wanted it a LOT, but I'm not mechanically trained or anything so called in the experts.  If nothing else it's something you can use as ammunition to help talk the price down, the seller put a new tyre on the car and had the climate control re-gassed before I bought it, just on the say-so of the AA chap.  I only bought the £99 check, the £250 check seemed a little excessive - I could check if the windscreen wipers and headlights etc worked myself without needing Bosch certification ;) .

I know dealers take a lot of stick on here . But , i would personally not buy a car outside the dealer network. When you  think about  it . The dealers take the pick of the cars and then any ones left over will be punted off to auction.

The other option is that Auction R10 talked about in a pervious thread about a mercedes trade auction.

And the dealer knows a little about the car that a " car supermarket " will do.

I'm still visiting the Auctions! Some recent prices (Daimler Chrysler Finance @ Peterborough) were...

1998 S E300 Avantgarde Estate DT Auto 44k miles £19100

1999 S E 300 Avantgarde Estate DT Auto 135k miles £13500

2001 Y E240 Avantgarde Saloon 15k miles £18300

1998 S SL280 Auto 34k miles £24400

Plenty more prices and cars - drop me a line if you want a rough idea?!

Oh yeah...  ...T Plate 230SLK £18000 (No, I didn't!)

I have had 3 friends buy nice clean cars (fiats!albeit)and they have been fine but if you do buy from them get it checked out by the AA or good mechanic, I went and had a look oneday prices are o.k but cars in the outdoor storage are ALL scratched dented etc etc but the audi's,mercs and beamers kept indoors seem in good nick. If you are not too far check it out
