Hello folks! Not sure if you have heard of the terrible, major flash floods in the Murcia Region - or even if it has been covered in the UK. It has been awful. People drowned, as their cars got washed away.

The good news, is that I managed to get my wifes Land Rover, the ML and the S-Class, out of our underground garage - literally with minutes to spare. Less than 10 minutes after I got them out, the water was waist deep.

Others were not so lucky, and about 24 cars were lost. Included in the lost ones, were 2 lovely Mercs, whose owners didn't leave their keys with anyone, so they could be moved. All the pictures of the floods are on my website - www.ltora.com

I have posted pictures of the Mercs on here.

The white one had been totally submerged under about 3 metres of water, the blue SL, under 2 metres. The water was muddy fresh water.

Question: Are they write-offs?

The sad thing is, their owners only found out today - as the garages have just been pumped out.

Thanks, Malcolm. We have been evacuated as there are no services in our apartment. Sadly, we have lost a storeroom full of personal stuff, which was in the garage - including a brand new spare MAF for the ML - bugger!!

By the way, I now know 1st hand, that the ML can wade in water about 1 metre deep - and all the door seals work perfectly. Hell of a way to find out though.!!!

Yes they will be write offs (or at least that would be the case in the UK) There was a member on here who had bought a water damaged CLS not sure if he ever got that one running

A friend of mine bought a Vauxhall Carlton which had been submerged in the floods of 2003. A new car, he gave £6,000 for it and crossed his fingers. He has now put over 100,000 miles on it and his wife still runs it as their second car.

You pays your money, and you takes your chance.

Yes they will always be write offs simply because many of the electrical faults will only come to light later when connections etc. start to corrode, and insurance comanies dont want the hassle, also manufacturers warranties will no longer apply.. so if you keep or buy a flood damaged vehicle it will have no warranty even if it is new...
