finally today I removed the electronic shift lever from my 2004 C200 CDI

there are threads here about my transmission problem, that it always goes into 3rd gear limp mode

amazingly the electronic shift lever part number is A211 267 31 24 a part that's normally fitted to W211 E Class

does this explain my transmission fault?

or will I be wasting my money if I buy and fit the correct part?

A203 267 55 24 Previous
A209 267 03 24 Previous
A203 267 90 24 Current

Sam,

the wrong part was fitted the A211 267 31 24 seems to be for W211 E Class as far as I can see from EPC

the transmission never worked properly since I had the car (always going into 3rd gear limp mode) soon after taking off

I have a Selector module from a 220cdi at work, its 2nd hand, but if the part numbers match, i would be happy to send it to you, at your cost!!

At least you could try it and see, if it cured it then we can talk about you buying the selector, if it don't cure it, send it back!!!

Cant be any fairer than that!!

A diesel
I've not read any posts on this but what codes does the star test give. An incorrect speed sensor signal will cause 3rd gear limp mode as by then the ECU detects enough gearbox slippage/overdriving.

Let me first check that the selector i have at work is the "correct" part number!!

Malc, remind me when you get to us in the morning, my memory is getting worse!!

Will get it in the post by the weekend Rich if the part numbers are a match!!!

Sam,

OK please check it, I have sent an email to you and included my VIN.

Maybe you can confirm with EPC because it is saying following which I don't understand:-

008 CAUTION UP TO IDENT: A 021086, F 010264 ORDER GEARSHIFT LEVER* AS FOR VEHICLE EQUIPMENT LEVEL

429 THEFT-RELEVANT PART, WHEN ORDERING STATE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER

PS It is a Tiptronic

"429 THEFT-RELEVANT PART, WHEN ORDERING STATE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER "

Doesn't this mean this is a part that requires coding to the EIS system?

it can mean it will be coded at the factory, to a specific vehicle chassis number. It could also mean the factory just want to track it
