Can you not simply jack the rear end up, get both wheels off the ground and spin one wheel. If normal diff the other wheel will spin the other way, if LSD both wheels spin the same way (I think that's the right way round!).

In theory you're right Peter, but in practice different diff types (clutch pack, which I think is the AMG type as OE, or helical cut gears as per Quaife), behave differently... I'm told.

Also, the LSD normally needs to be loaded before it locks up to any degree.

Done the above test, the wheels spin in opposite directions but 2 dealers are saying it has one, 1 dealer saying not!

how much is it to replace the diff oil if it is an LSD? could be worth taking it to Acid anyway take a look inside and take it from there?

That could be a good plan Matt. At least I'll know the oil is fresh... if I have a LSD.

Well, the saga continues! Supplying dealer has sent me his spec sheet for the car - which now lists it as having P30 (no change there), but describes that as Performance Pack Plus! (The "Plus" wasnt in evidence previously).

Has offered to take the car in to test it... as and when I can get across there!!!

The P30 AMG Performance Package includes:
- AMG Limited Slip Differential
- AMG Compound Braking System
- AMG Track-Calibrated Suspension - stiffer springs
- AMG Leather/Alcantara Performance Steering Wheel
- Top Speed: 174 mph

P31 is PP+ which does NOT have the LSD as standard

Standard C63 had 457bhp, electronic ESP that was managed by the brakes and a decent standard spec. There are many cost options available though.

Early Performance Package (not Plus) cars had regular 457bhp lump, red calipers and 2 piece Ali/Steel composite discs, carbon boot spoiler, stiffer suspension and friction plate LSD. Again, plenty of options if you felt flush.

Then PP-Plus came along in 2009 (?), both pre and post FL, and that had 487bhp engine with SLS internals, suede / alcantara wheel, carbon boot lip, red calipers with single piece Ali/Steel composite disks, additional interior options. LSD and AMG suspension was a cost option.

Well if it is listed with PPP then they had better make sure it has it or rectify and retro fit

Toby has it spot on up there. ^^^

PP is Option P30, whereas PPP is P31, with LSD as an option. :(

Need to see the build sheet which should have option 471 on it if it has a diff...

Just ran your VIN through EPC and it shows SA code 923 - Increased engine output but no SA code 471 - Mechanical locking Differential

Also looking at the rear axle parts info for your VIN the diff listed is not valid for SA 471 - Locking diff.

Going on what I've found I would, sadly, say you do not have a LSD

More than happy to be proved wrong though!..

I'm the same Peter, gutted for the OP really.

It's a shame that MB don't make it obvious, in that PP/PPP ought really to have LSD as standard. I believe that this wasn't an option on the earlier cars with PP, and they were all fitted with it, though even so, I would expect the dealer to know what they're selling instead of assuming.

Yep, 471 is the one you want regardless of P30/P31 option.

The confusing part is the datacard also shows the car having SA code P30 - AMG PERFORMANCE PACKAGE ....

Options offered as standard within a package don't always appear listed separately but the rear axle parts breakdown definitely shows the diff to be non LSD

Gents, thanks for all your help on this!

I thought I'd got my head around these packages and respective MY intros, prior to purchase!

The fact that one minute they're saying it's the Performance Package, the next Performance Package Plus, has baffled me even more!

Certainly from the 2 data cards I've been shown, there is no Option U471 that is apparent. Even more befuddling then, that 2 dealers are confident that the LSD oil was changed early doors...!

Drill a hole in the diff light the oil that comes out on fire and then do a number 11 across the front of the supplying dealers forecourt, should get you some attention I'd have thought???

Or drive it through the front of the showroom and blame it on the lack of the diff... ;)
