Could be a great time to look at replacing the filament with an LED perhaps?
Put a load resistor across the back and it should keep the warnings at bay as well.

Facelift W211 has full led clusters, but at least W219 pre-facelift needs an adapter to connector in order to avoid bulb error message, not sure about W211.

You do have to wonder how it passed the MOT if the light wasn't working.

So in other words go to the dealer to get the right one if the number isn't on the board itself.

Correct, the dealer will only supply one against his VIN number

It does seem though that Mercedes can complicate a simple light cluster. The 'tracking' on my car's rear lights is integral to the cluster itself, the bulb goes into a seperate holder that has a bayonet/half turn fitting to the back of the cluster. Now one or two of my 'bulbs' don't make a proper contact onto the steel 'tracking' and need backing off very slightly to make them work because over the years they've arc'd slightly and there's a small burnt bit of 'tracking'. Remedy is to replace the complete cluster ...... no chance. My Vauxhalls have had a seperate bulb holder like those just linked to in the States so if they had the same arcing prblem it would have been a cheap easy fix.

It is a crazy idea but in MB's defence I think when a bulb such as this blows, a substitute is used, such as a rear fog light on the same side as the failed bulb?

It's the same though as on cars where you need to dismantle half of it to even get to the bulb. That's why places such as Halfords make a killing by charging a couple of quid to do it for you

I didn't have any blown brake light just yet, that why it didn't fail MOT

I been proactive looking for a spare in case it get blown up

I have to start sourcing a light cluster with bulbs in it

will the dealer still supply me with a bulb if I quote A 211 820 01 77?

is this 16 or 21 watts to comply with the law?
