Well it appears the future is here already.
You may recall some time ago I suggested that car ownership would change to a subscription model?
On TV today saw an advert for a company called Onto who are doing subscription EVs that include the car and free public chargers .
Next will be shared subscription....

To be fair those prices include everything including servicing, insurance and electric (if you can keep it charged on public chargers).

There is the super elusion though that electric is free to produce and is completely carbon neutral, which is an abolsute nonsense. It isnt. My bro in law works in hydro and electric power and the figures of planet destroying NOx and CO2 from production make running a million diesel engines in central london like taking a leak into the north atlantic, into the breeze on a windy day! Some of the wind and hydro stuff makes half of its service life meaning it never pays back in cost or generated electric what it takes to install them and ruin the landscape and atmosphere even further.

The reliance on all things electric, from vehicles, heat in homes, sillicon valley business enterprises, to crypto currency draws more electric power than mankind can make or supply and we havent even tapped in to industrial scale businesses yet.

Forget the motor industry, we are just victimised and picked on time and again because we are the only industry that can be physically measured on a regular basis. There are far more polluting industries out there that get away with murder, literally. Construction being one of them.

Until the world assesses every single industry and acts regardless of financial impact to markets and stocks you can forget the 2050 target for temperature stabilisation, you can add another 100 years and you still wont achieve it.

Facts are, humans are too materialistic to go without what we have been used to having since the mellenium, a worldly society where people are judged on what they can make materially and be seen to be having or doing means that they will say all the right things, but wont sacrifice anything because it will mean they will miss out.

Agreed Steve - the construction industry is particularly bad as is fashion.

My favourite current saying is "the emperor has no clothes on" and that is exactly what Steve is saying.
No-one dare put their head above the parapet and say what is obviously true, until industry cleans up it's act in India, China and the USA what is the point of us all buying ineffective heat pumps, scrapping cars and becoming vegan? UK contributes 1%. Leading by example? Yes I'm sure the Worlds leaders are going to say look at UK let's follow anymore than we laughed at Norway & Sweden with their alcohol taxes....

Boris at the Summit is the only hope and watch how that flops.

Steve my good man you have hit the nail on the head Sir! Whatever we do on this planet we call home will always have consequences to our enviroment and esp the wonderful wildlife who share this planet with us who were here way long before humans ever were! All we do as a species is take from mother nature or create a man made material that can destroy our planet and make money from it, il tell you what, if there was an asteroid to hit the Earth in six months time and totally destroy the planet in a million pieces, the greedy money men will STILL!! want to make a fast buck even though they will not be able to spend it as there will be nothing left! Thats the utter greed that seems to be king nowadays?

I think everyone recognises electric is not totally emissions free, but it generates significantly less emissions than alternatives.

To say we shouldn't do it because X,Y,Z isn't doing it is a somewhat hollow argument. Someone has to start the ball rolling. If no one starts the ball rolling we're all totally screwed.

But should a 1% contributor who are a very small island already way ahead of the rest of the world in Carbon reduction and doing more than it's share try and lead the way?

To put it a little in context, if the Isle of Man declared they were going Carbon neutral in 2050 and told China and USSR they should follow their lead what do you think their reaction would be?

I only wish extinction rebellion members would lie on the runway Beijing Capital International Airport in protest!

Well its all very good that this Cop26 meeting will go ahead with lots of back slapping, hand shaking and lots of blah blah blah saying all the right things and making pointless promises and having a party afterwards congratulating themselves on doing absolutly nothing at all apart from jetting in from all over the globe instead of doing a zoom summit so contributing to climate pollution themselves eh! As per usual double standards, total hipocracy on a grand scale and protecting their mega rich business friends whilst they probably on the company boards raking in the shareholders profits! As i said before, all they care about is money and power and saving the planet is only lip service to these people, as long as have their wealth then that is all what they care about! Esp our crime minister and his useless cronies , rant over.....enjoy!! Ha!

Had no choice, either get it done here privately or lose my job! Also private keyhole surgury £4000! Over here it was £784!! Plus all the tests, Ultrasound, X Ray and a MRI all in not far off £1500!! And they make a profit too! Just goes to show how much we get ripped off in UK!!
