I want to swap over a leather gear shift knob into my car to replace the plastic one. Auto tranny.

How do I do this? I can't remove the PRNDL plate and get access to the brass coloured nut which seems to hold the shift lever. Once I eventually get that nut off, is that all there is to it?

Any advice/pictures most welcome by one of the mechanically inept.

TIA

the gear knob comes off the shaft, you never take the shaft out.

television,

Do you mean the knob itself unscrews from the shaft & can then be swapped over? I tried that and was using so much force to no avail that I thought I'd twist/break/damage something.

Forgive another silly question, but why do you never take the shaft out?

Sorry I am wrong on your car, forgive me. go to

page 26 then 060 and you will see your gear knob. that cover you talked about has a clip under each corner and needs a hook to unclip it.
