Hi - I recently took ownership of a 2007 CLS500 - been a great drive until I went to close the boot recently using the boot close button and it only closed half way. Now when I try to open or close the boot it only goes half way.

I noticed that when it opens half way, the lights on the two buttons do not light up, if I manually lift the boot to the fully open position they light up again but when pressing either it simply closes half way again.

Anyone know if the system can be reset?

    Thanks in advance.

There should be a opening height setting in the menu, could this be set wrong

my s class can be reset on star
its in the pse or pneumatics section
the operation is normalising trunk lid ( or something like )... easy to do

manual closing of the boot will throw mine out of sync. maybe once you can get away with it but then a reset will be reqd . the usual culprit is "helpful" passengers

I don't know if the auto boot lids are the same as the auto tailgates, but my S211 has a dash menu option to limit the opening of the tailgate (on auto-opening) in case it hits anything.

This feature can be turned on/off, and set to a limit, via the convenience functions in the dash menu.

That is the way that mine works;) sometime as said they can get out of sync if manually closed, STAR can normalize the motor

One can try normalising the RTC function as follows

The power closing unit is in the upper end position. If the trunk lid is open, it must be closed by hand until the pawl rotary tumbler switch (S88/4) sends the "Trunk lid closed" signal to the TCL control unit (lower calibration limit). To store the upper calibration limit, it is necessary for the opening angle limitation to be switched off in the instrument cluster.Actuate trunk lid open /close switch in the driver's door until the trunk lid is open and in the upper position. The RTC control unit recognizes the upper calibration limit by means of the trunk lid drive motor lockup recognition

Just like the windows the RTC looses calibration if the battery is disconnected. If the above fails to correct operation STAR will be required

The motor have counter in them, if the lid is closed to much manually then the motor revolution turn can get lost and it does not know where it should be.
Normalizing on STAR puts it back to normal. We get the same thing with the steering wheels and seats sometimes, if a fault is persistent there is sometimes a new program or ECU needed

Is this accessed some special way? I don't see anything relevant within the standard menu's on the cluster, just stuff to do with on/off for lighting and various other convienience options.

    Thanks

I don't have it in mine either, guess it's a general statement to ensure that those cars that do have the function switch it off.

    SUCCESS

Thought I would update this thread with how I fixed the problem.

Some days after the original post I got a message on instrument cluster telling me the license plate lights and third brake light bulbs had failed..... suspicious as same area of car.

Seems to be a common problem as I found after "Googleing" various phrases and tracked it down to the wiring loom in the boot. On the left hand side where the wiring loom goes up the boot support, one wire (brown one in my case) had broken but it wasn't obvious until I stripped away the felt tape which was wrapped around the loom.

So, boot closing system now working again.

    Thanks
