Hi guys as some already know my quest to by a 2011 e350 has been well let’s just say very entertaining!!!
With not much luck. I was just browsing at older Mercedes and stumbled on some 2009 cls,s there are some good clean examples on there with low milage,I like the look of this car to me still looks a cracking car even to this day. Are they problematic hence why so cheap. Or is it just age related to the price of them some clean cars around with only like 60k miles for less than 6 k

It is the om642 engine , slightly less horsepower than the 350’s (om642) but it’s still a stunning engine . Some issues that are well known with swirl flaps , turbo’s , inlet manifolds , oil cooler seals .

I think they are a very exotic looking car especially the pre face lift model, and of course in AMG mode :cool:

I have a 2007 320 CDI, bought it with 65,000miles, FSH. I did the crankcase ventilation and red turbo inlet seal with help of fellow members providing the correct advice on this site. Easy, inexpensive DIY job.
The original CLS looks the best, especially with the AMG kit or in genuine AMG guise. My standard one seems to get a lot of looks and attention on the road. As John L says, timeless... you can't say that for much in this day and age!

It feels a little better/premium in my experience to a family members who has the E-class 220-320 models of the same era and I prefer it to a 2010 E350 I had when I tried leasing and certainly quieter on the road than all of those mentioned.

I would guess the prices are more due to the fact that, with only 2 rear seats, used buyers wanting the additional seating offered by an E-class. Also, its probably an overlooked model for the wrong reasons. Most people may think its too expensive to run as a used proposition.

The boot is very large, there are storage areas all around the car to keep items nicely tucked out of sight, it handles it weight very well with minimal body roll and its easy to place accurately on the road. The engine performs very well and the oodles of torque coupled to the 7spd box return a relaxed and speedy drive should you wish. Mine is not remapped but, very easily has the traction light on without really provoking it. The ride quality is very good despite low profile tyres and you can cover long distances easily and comfortably.

Servicing costs are reasonable. I bought MANN filters all round from carparts4Less, costing circa £70. Engine Oil, is about 8.5/9.0 ltrs so I buy 3 big tubs. I bought Brembo discs/pads all round from carparts4less and from memory they were not expensive at all. Road Tax is £325. I can easily get between 35-45mpg mixed conditions, even more on a decent run.

Tyres are pricey and pay close attention to them! The staggered rear wheels (245/40/18 and 275/35/18) are not cheap. Circa £120 front / £165 rear, per corner for something decent. You will not have a wealth of options, just a few few economy choices and then the premium brands. Ensure any car has decent quality tyres or factor getting replacements upon purchase. (Heavy and torquey car so crap tyres should not be considered!)

The only thing that's really annoyed me off about this car is the very poor headlights. The original halogen lights are a dangerous joke (even with crystal clear lenses and the best halogen bulbs). Yet my 20 year old Volvos with reflector lights and halogen bulbs are awesome. I'm not sure how much better genuine factory Xenon models are but, I'd try and source one with factory Xenons on the spec list for sure and avoid Airmatic suspension models. Also as I service the car and look around it, the quality of rubber hoses is not great in my opinion. I would look at replacing rubber hoses as you go with quality Gates hoses if its something you want to keep for a long time.

Its decent enough so much so I have started to look for a clean, low mileage, low owner CLS55 model to sit in a collection I seem to have going on.

If you do buy a cls one thing to look for is that the rear seats fold. Especially if your into fishing or other outdoor sports like I was at the time.

The owner with the blue lowered, kitted out CLS is Liam.Morgan.

The only pictures of mine I have, are the same as when I bought it, looks a little cleaner (deep clean) now but, not been able to fully detail it yet or had the wheels refurbished due to new baby, selling a house, having ongoing works done on my property and detailing other cars etc. So here's my standard example;

Oh, I forgot to mention, make sure the model you get has COMMAND, its well worth it. There should be a telephone Bluetooth dongle in the arm rest. Its known, for these phone dongles to be removed by trade and private sellers to be sold online for £150-£299 separately. Factor this in if the car is hi spec and the phone dongle is not present which is essential for handsfree calls.
