To reset heater flaps and actuators

Switch on ignition.

Press recirculated air and defrost buttons on control panel together for longer than 5 seconds.

The LED's in the defrost and recirculated air buttons flash alternately.

Wait until the LED's stop flashing (approx 30 sec) system set to defrost LED on.

Switch off ignition.

After 40 sec re start engine.

can you do something similar on a w210

Malcolm,

Reading this brings to mind a small problem on my W210. Mine is not fitted with digital air-com rather has the two rotating temp. controls. I notice that if say I'm running with then both around central position all works fine. If i advance the drivers side control slightly towards the red then the heater blows out max heat which I understand is correct until the correct temp is reached. However on mine it will continue of max heat indefinitely.
If however I put it to max heat on the control for a short while and then turn it back it seems to regulate OK.
I just wondered if maybe there was some kind of reset for this model or if not what do you think?

Hello television,
Thanks for your post about resetting the flaps etc.
I have tried this method, and can get the two leds flashing, but they keep on flashing and do not stop after approx 30 seconds.

I have a 2001 C320.

Any ideas?

Forgot to mention: I have a knocking noise under the dash (in behind stereo etc), for approx 10 knocks (clunk, clunk) after turning ignition on. I figure this is an aircon flap or something gone amiss in there as the aircon no longer sends air to my feet area now.

That was why I was trying to reset all flaps, but perhaps this is an actual linkage issue also.

I need to get into the dash area to try to strip down and access. Have you done this before?

I seem to have inherited a rather musky and lingering odour with my 02 C180. Are there any filters or similar I can blow out to resolve this and is it linked to what you mention in this post ?

When I reset mine the reset just carries on. The LED's do not stop, the sequence keeps on happening! Any help apprecaited. My originla fault is foot well blowers did not work.

I think it would indicate the footwell actuators are faulty, the system cannot reset itsef.

I have the same problem on my 203 C220 CDI.
Did you open it (dash area)?
What did you find? A broken flap?
It is fixable "at home":) or is better to go to a dealer to fix it ?

Thanks

Flashing lights will not stop!

I have tried the procedure as described and I am suffering from the same issue as some others!

The reset does not stop after 30 seconds the lights keep flashing. Is this anything to worry about? Does it signify that something is wrong?

Thanks for your help!

I had the same issue, with clunking flaps.. sounded like the low footwell ones.
I got two quotes.. one dealer said that it could be upper motors or lower ones.. and it could be from £300 to £900 in labour to sort it out.
The other dealer told me it was lower and would be £950 approx to resolve.

.. I think I will live with clunky aircon I have decided. :(
This is obviously an issue with this model.. with some cars having it only after 2 years.

The reset of the flaps will not work if the flaps are broken and stuck.. or motors gone.
Perhaps this is why it keeps on flashing rather than resetting.

Would this type of reset method fix a whirring sound from the blower dependent on engine rpm? I also hear a ring like sound from the a/c vents. I'm not sure if this problem is common to w203 C240.

Same problem as the above the post, would a reset reslove this problem? Only happens when aircon on but I dont get a ringing sound just more of a high pitched whine now and again.

Also would you only reset if you have a problem or nothing works?

HI guys, I had my issued looked into, and it seems broken flaps in the actuator motors.
Cost at an independent dealer was around the £1000 figure. :(

I think I am going to live with some clunking flaps and wining noises...

Obviously a big issue though with this model.

You could try the reset at any stage, it wont hurt things.
