Thanks Malcom,
I know I will just end up with a box of spare parts once I have put back together and probabaly more frustrated than hearing clunking (which I have got used to over the last year and a half).
I might take you up on this when I get my C32 (and if it has similar issues), as I will want to keep that model for a few years.

Have you had any luck yet? I have the same "ticking" sound, and it stops after one crank, but starts again on the next.

DRIVIN ME CRAZY!

Hi i have a 209 with a similar problem the air does not seem to move from the footwells to the other vents especially to demist the windscreen also i think that it is in recirc as it seems to mist up all the time.
this car was laid up as the car had frontal damage also the bodyshop replaced the dash airbags could they have damaged the flaps i seem to have a hum coming from the passenger side footwell. if the motors are at fault are they easy to get at i hope somebady can help.

I would have said David the the ones who changed the dash have not connected up all of the dash correctly,, the motor running would confirm this and the change over flap from re to fresh air not joined up,,it is possible to remove all of the components from under the dash.

With the first 6 VIN numbers I can print off some instrutions

Malcolm, I noticed your the link to this thread on my post earlier. Rather than create another new thread I have also noticed heat does not work on the drivers side footwell, for me this cannot be left as I normally put full heat on my feet, heated seats on and windows down during the winter. I'll do the reset tomorrow.

So just tried this and the display began showing 1G and 90 then it started counting down 1G 89, 1G 88 etc and it did not stop. So I turned the car off. I then noticed a stream of water underneath the car that ran out the side under the drivers door.

However i can now feel the blower on the drivers side, still not as strong on the passenger side. Is it worth doing it again?

don't talk to me about annoying dash ticking!!! I have this, reset doesn't stop - ever - suspect broken flap but no idea which one. In through the glovebox.. or Dash out. Flap roulette..

I get in a muddle sometimes,, the 208 shares the same system os the 202 and no reset for that, and the 209 has no re set adjustments at all

Hi guys,

new to the forum and been shown this thread due to my on going problem.

Im having a clunking noise coming from inside the dash when i start the car. I have been told its one of the many stepping motors.

Is there an easy way of finding out which one it is and is it easy to sort at home? any help would be great as im getting sick of the noise

Mate, I feel for you!
I have had it in two C Class models now, a 2002 and 2003 model.

Luckily the 2nd car had a "Carbon Filter" button, which when pushed stops all the clunking (think it introduces another air filtering mechanism into the equation).

Besides this, your looking at about a grand to fix.. unless you were really lucky with it being a high or very low flap or motor.

Besides some rust, and heated seats issue.. the clunking aircon has been the main problems I have received from MB Vehicles in the past few years.

Malcolm,
I have S320cdi w220 2002. I presume by defrost you mean rear window "defrost"> To date I have not been able to get the leds to flash so have achieved nothing as yet. I trhink it impractical to dismantle the dash.
Also where is the relay that operates the hazard lights? and powers the leds on the wooden strip?

I tried to do a reset this afternoon.

After holding down the buttons as suggested the display began flashing with "00" on the left hand side and "24" on the right hand side and there was no resetting taking place.

It also happened if I pressed just the EC button for 5 seconds.

Anyone any ideas?

Cheers Ollie.

I'll give you a call next week to sort out a time.

Are you allowing cars in the workshop now? They may spoil the floor!
