Hi all,
Not posted for a while. Was waiting on MB parts and time-slots to tackle the tailgate lock barrel.
Lock: Fitted today, much bigger job than the N/S door, but all good and (Eureka!), the second new IR key synchronised immediately as I had thought might be the case; so, fully working locks!
A/C: I think I have finally narrowed the A/C problems down to the DIAVIA system relay (a single 30A relay rather than the MB-factory fit two; 15A and 30A) and replacement of the console heating controller: learned a lesson on the latter; the DIAVIA system fits to the standard MB heater controller NOT the MB A/C controller. Whereas the latter is fully integrated with the A/C, the DIAVIA feeds a separately attached 3 button module for the (1) humidifier (2) A/C on/off and (3) recirculation switches, connected via a ribbon cable (this then appears nearly identical in the dash to the MB A/C controller). Now I know!
Note: BTW Reader-Air no longer does service work only business-to-business supply of parts. I have located a specialist who is going to look over the whole A/C system for me in the next week or so.
Question: Has anyone successfully fitted a central locking switch to a car which wasn't fitted with one at the factory? If so, I'd appreciate some tips!
Bits: Have replaced lots of bits of missing/broken trim, including a door cill, driver's seat side moulding, caps over bolts etc.
Bodywork: Have ordered two new wings and near trim panels for load bay side windows - paintwork will be done early July.
To complete the tidy-up, I need a few bits and pieces which are no longer serviced by MB. Both front footwell linings, the walnut trim panel around the gearshift, and (just to be really fussy) the plastic panel that sits under the driver's side dash. Any tips for where I might find refurbs would be appreciated.
Hopefully, though, the car will look very smart when it cruises to the South of France in August, with an ice-cool interior!
Cheers,
Jens
