We always have good experience (from the garage perspective) with AA warranty.

Has anyone had similar problem with their Mercedes?
I drive 2017 e class 220d. I got check engine light on I think it’s to do with adblue. Car isn’t reading adblue measurement. As I put 10L adblue in today and still the sign coming up as “cannot read fluid measurements. However car drives fine itself. Also no message popped up to top up adblue as it use to. Just shows 0 adblue. Is it to do with dpf or any nox sensor? What the problem can be?

Hi

New adblue deposit Mercedes told me.

Update
Had diagnosed today by Mercedes, cost me £280 just for the diagnosed. they said it took them 3hrs to find the problem. The problem with my adblue is that it needs new adblue delivery pump. Mercedes will charge £1900 to replace the part. They said part itself is for £1000 and labour £900.

my friend had similar problem with adblue but his been fixed with software update.
I will never recommend anyone to buy this piece of ****. I paid 25k nd just over a year how can adblue pump fail? I only did 20k on clock overall it’s done 44k. It feels like you end up spending same amount of money over the years on these luxury cars. If you’re paying 25k for a car, u hope it’ll last for few years before any problems starts to happen but that’s not the case.
Outrageous sums! £1k for a pump??? I thought aviation parts take the p1ss!

I'd be gently mentioning the words "not fit for purpose", and suggesting it shouldn't take a franchised dealer (the experts) 3hrs to investigate what seems to be a common failure mode! (To be honest, I'd argue the majority of main stealers aren't fit for purpose too!)

I hope you can find a more agreeable resolution!
[Edit: Just noticed the dates - glad MB made a half-decent gesture towards remedy!]

If you have twitter I recomend to make a post, maybe mercedes daimler get some responsability on this kind of parts.

Just on this issue I thought I'd relate my experience and hope it helps anyone with the same problem

I drive a W205 2015 Manual Diesel and live in Ireland.

So last week, I got EML with 2 codes (basic obd reader with reset function)...codes P2ba9; P13DF ... Resetting and clearing codes with basic obd ...was futile...back on, the second I restarted car followed by "Check Adlue refer to manual" Message and then "Cant Measure Fluid Level"... YET the Graphic for a few seconds ...would show a measure of 2400kms remaining and indeed when I topped it Up with Adblue ...5100Kms... But again the Graphic would switch immediately to "Can't Measure Fluid Level" and Check Adblue ....And then the EML on with same codes

Within 2 days ... The Dreaded "Engine Start Not Possible within 800km" came up...and the countdown started.

Frantic Google searches stated everything from Nox Sensors (I had update in Jan 2020 by Main Dealer) to Adblue Tank (with inbuilt, not Separately sold... heater, pump, measuring sensor) to the Adblue Control unit (in the boot) or worse case ...ALL the aforementioned...as possible problems.

Regarding MB Costs including labour , diagnosis and parts ...anywhere from €1000 to €4000 depending on above scenarios.

I attach photos of the error messages, levels and codes

However Luckily I found a genuine Indy Mercedes Specialist Mechanic (John Kelly Ned Kellys Mercedes Kilkenny) who solved my problem by

(A) Carrying out Diagnostic using Mercedes Software

(B) Establishing Nox Sensors not the Root cause even though they initially struggled to recognize Adblue and appeared like one was faulty.

(C) Physical Check on Adblue Tank and Wiring and any other Related Wiring

(D) TestDrive and Reset Nox to double Ensure Nox Sensors working

And then the issue ...

(E) a Physical Check on Urea Injection Pump directly into Exhaust

So Adblue crystalizes extremely easily and especially with low usage and or lower temps as has occurred lately. The Urea Injection Pump injects into a "cradle" for want of a better word which has a small exit hole into Exhaust.

I will try and attach photos of Before and After (the mechanic cleaned it out), ... You will see the obvious crystalization which effectively left a pinhole ...meaning the Adblue was dribbling into Exhaust ...The Nox Sensors then assumed No Adblue Present and Tank Empty or Flow so Poor Couldn't Measure it or both..Triggering EML, Codes and Warning Messages which led to Countdown shutoff as a failsafe.

The Mechanic was methodical, not only relying on Mercedes Software but also carrying out Manual Checks ... With the latter being vital discovering the Blockage ... Also old fashioned Clean not Replace on the affected part.

Overall 2 hrs of work and the cost less than €100.

That was 7 days ago, Car Driving Great, Adblue Measuring correctly, No Codes nor Pending Codes, No EML nor Warning Messages or Dreaded ShutOff Countdowns

Hopefully this is a solution for some of you posting here..And it saves someone else alot of time, stress and money as it did for me and Thanks Again Ned Kellys Kilkenny Ireland.

I appreciate different models but I imagine the Urea injection pumps / process similar. Also I appreciate unfortunately it could be one of the other items ...but you might get lucky like I did.

And therein lies the issue, me thinks. Main stealers too reliant on software, and no good old fashioned knowledge and lateral thinking!

Useful post, thanks Mark. Hopefully sorts some issues out for people more easily.

Thank you so much for this information. I think I’m having the same problem. Are you able to advise where this pump is located and if it’s something you can access and clean yourself or whether it is something a mechanic needs to do for you?

Its in the ad blue tank, in the bottom of it. Needs the tank to be empty before you remove it

Hi don't know if technically this part is the pump...it's more the receptor of the fluid just before it enters the exhaust...it's 'welded' to the exhaust...it's @ midway down the car...if you can jack it up safely/ securely you might be able to do yourself ...either way a mechanic could put it up on a lift, undo a few bolts, and clean out if blocked...just show him the photos of the blocked receptor and that's it's located midway down the exhaust...hopefully this is your issue and you'll save a lot of time and definitely a lot of money

I see in my original post I referenced it incorrectly as pump...as other contributor states ...pump is more than likely in the tank itself..this is the area where adblue physically injected into exhaust

There was no requirements to empty any fluid ...just 'open' this 'receptor' where it joins/enters/injects adblue to exhaust and clean out ... reassemble and thats it

Really appreciate your help. I’ll take to my mechanic as not confident of doing it myself. I’ll show him this thread and hopefully that is my issue. I’ll keep you informed on how I get on and thanks once again.

That’s great news! Fingers crossed that’s my issue too. Did the warning light go off straight away and the adblue level reading start working or did it need resetting?

Everything went back to normal BUT bear in mind the mechanic had Mercedes software so perhaps you need that countdown to shut off reset
