Hi folks, just bought a GLE 350de. Its going to be based in Cumbria will be doing a lot of farm track / fields. i would ideally like to fit all terrain tyres to the existing multi spoke rims but Mercedes are not saying if this can be done. Does anyone have experience of this please? Did you get to new rims? advice welcome.

Many thanks, Ian

Hello and welcome,

What size wheels and tyres?

I expect you've fashionable 19" or 20" rims which precludes a lot of all terrain tyres - BF Goodrich do some All Terrain tyres in 20" rims (I have them on 16" rims on my Land Rover and they go pretty much anywhere)

Apart from changing the tyres you need to consider going down to 17" or even 16" wheels. That will then reduce the width of your tyres & give you more down weight, & more grip.

Have a look on Camskills website https://www.camskill.co.uk/ you might find something knobbly that'll fit.
as above , changing to 17's for the winter is probably your best option.

Not the vehicle I'd have chosen for grassy fields or farm tracks but it is what it is.

First thing is wet grass is slipperier than ice. Even full mud tyres can slip and slide all over the place.

If available in your size General Grabbers or Yokohama Geolander G015 or G016 if you want more aggressive tread are decent all terrain tyres. If you want something more aggressive I ran Maxxis Mudders on my Defender with good results.

Yes, it was a little Hobsons Choice given the lead times on many of the vehicles, thanks for taking the time to reply.

Did you get the off-road pack with it which I think has extra traction settings for different conditions? From some of the youtube videos it looks to make a fair effort off road even on standard tyres.

BTW no experience of this vehicle at all just interested as we had 20yrs owning land for horses where loads of experience was gained on wet grass and mud with different vehicles and tyres.

I use Pirelli Scorpion Zeros on my Range Rover. Good grip on snow, mud and grass, plus quiet on tarmac.
