I think that the reason that they didn't was vehicle access was restricted by the fence behind them (as well as their coffee table and sunshade). I'd blame the circuit owners for that, after all the drivers are told to look for openings in the armco (indicated by the orange paint) and park up there if possible.

As for Hamilton's penalty taking so long to determine, I think that's due to him coming in so soon after the call for a safety car. The team did issue him a message to stay out, but it arrived too late as he was already in the pit entry.

Technically its the drivers fault as he should be aware of track side indicators, realistically he would have been looking at the right hand side of the pit entry lane and probably didn't notice the red cross lights on the opposite side of the track.

This is a situation where I think that a marshal waiving a flag on the inside of the bend to the pits would have served better, but then as Jenson Button said he'd never seen the pit lane closed signals before, so perhaps the marshal had left the appropriate flag in the cupboard!

He got a longer penalty simply to make the race more exciting but you can't keep a good driver down long term, until he retires other drivers will be in the "also ran" category;-).

I don't think bottas was supposed to be Hamiltons equal pal , not usually how teams work but if you go by Top Gear reasonably priced car , there was only .2 of a second between Lewis and Seb , id love to see them drive each others cars pal , just to see the outcome

I would love to see them as team mates, Vettel seems to have forgotten how to drive lately, Hamilton in my opinion is in the same league as Jim Clark, look how he still won with a puncture!

I'd say a lot is down to reporting to get a story.

I'm pretty sure we all could get a good or bad write up by journalists depending upon how they want the story to play out.

I'm only interested in the story on the track, although I am enjoying "F1" on Netflix at the moment

Outside of driving he does not seem very bright, like many he cannot see how counter productive BLM is in the UK, rapidly reversing progress over the years with integration, my children did not see colour, now, unfortunately they do...

However, it is only recently that I have formed the JC, LH comparison, such a shame JC finished his career early with a crash, perhaps a better comparison would be with M. Schumacher.

That is a very sad reality. Fortunately neither my Wife, Daughter, granddaughter do not :)

yes , I agree with that pal
the reason I feel JC was in a class of his own was the varied amount of cars he won in and in different countries with barely a break between drives , not like these pampered lot nowadays

Obviously we need more coffee tables trackside, if that's what it takes to spice things up.

Toto seemed to have missed the fact that a single engine mode would mean much tougher overtakes. Unless that crazy rule is reversed, we're going to get more processional races from now on, and if the black arrows don't get front row lockouts they might be stuck in the pack. They won't have a big enough delta to overtake.

True but there is still DRS, Tow and Tyre performance at work and the magic steering (still not got my head around that)..

Now that big money has moved into F1 the whole show is orchestrated but despite this the best drivers will prevail as in any sport regardless of the manipulation that goes on. I totally lost interest in the sport post the Senna/Prost and Mansell/Hill era but Hamilton has mastered his sport to such an extent I’m prepared to sit through what is normally a procession at some circuits just enjoy the perfection he brings to driving a Grand Prix car.

Yes according to official timing there was only 12 seconds between the pit lane being closed and Hamilton coming in, so it is understandable that the decision to bring him in was not reversed quickly enough.

In F1 tradition that is all in the past now so I am looking forward to seeing F1 cars racing at Mugello for the first time ever this weekend.
I would think it's either going to be amazing or ****! :D

Oh absolutely it is.....but whether it is suited to F1 cars remains to be seen.
I'm definitely looking forward to finding out. :)
