Real Madrid covered Ronaldo's transfer fee of €90m (IIRC) in 2 weeks in shirt sales alone!!!!
Real Madrid are massive, one of the biggest fan bases in Football. Still LH is really big for Mercedes right now, surely they want to break records in wins and he is the best bet.

With the sheer amount of HAM fans out there I am sure the costs would get covered VERY quickly

I agree, look at the prices for the caps these days, not to mention pit crew clothes. Are you planning on going to the British F1 if things are open by then? We were looking at Spa, but don't want to book anything until we're given the all clear.

Never mind the clothing, the prices for the Silverstone GP are ridiculous! Our daughter bought us race day GA tickets with off site parking a few years ago, I was horrified when I saw what she'd paid for them from the official site (not from a reseller!). It'd probably be cheaper to day trip on Eurotunnel and go to Spa if F1 goes there - plus I'd love to see Eau Rouge "in the flesh"!!

Been to the British GP twice, once as a hospitality guest with BMW and the other time with the RAC which included Helicopter in and Helicopter out. The air space was like Vietnam !!. Although the atmosphere is not there the coverage is so much better from your armchair !!

I’d recommend the classic 6hrs at Spa, a really great atmosphere over the weekend with amazing cars.
You can walk the whole track and go through the pits and garages and talk to the drivers and mechanics.
Le Mans classic is also excellent

We've been thinking of driving to the Spa F1 weekend. We found the 2018 French GP didsapointing.
The classic 6hr spa sounds good.

I drove there in my 911 and went via the Nurburgring for a few laps on the way home. :)
Watching and listening to GT40’s in the dusk with discs glowing red is memorable to say the least. Talked to a Dutch guy with 27 classic Astons... 2 German lads with a “Works” 300SL and the period Mercedes transporter.

Having had to cancel a "special birthday" trip for Cora last year we're hoping to do a "special birthday" trip for me - and a belated one for her - this year. In the thoughts were Le Mans Classic with Lycian Events, and/or Goodwood Revival (we even have the outfits for that!), but I'll add the Spa Classic to the list, as although Cora would love to do Monaco I don't buy lottery tickets! I'm not only hoping at least 1 of those will be possible, but also that she does not insist we do what I was originally planning for hers - namely a cruise (Norwegian fjords), she's been after me for years to do a cruise and I've responded politely "not a chance" - or not so politely "not a cat in hell's chance" or, in Glaswegian, YCFROJ!!

I can recommend the Goodwood Revival, absolutely the best experience ever :D

Getting a hotel booking close to the venue would be the problem, the only hotel packages I've seen are 20-30 miles away! Be almost as easy to stay with friends at Ocean Village Southampton!

Absolutely agree. We went year before last and it was superb.

Also did Spa F1 years ago and it was really good.
Far more relaxed than Silverstone and cheaper too, even after ferries, fuel and accomodation if 4 share a car!

Interesting piece on Autocar today about George Russell

GR is absolutely the real deal IMO. You dont win rookie championships in any formula without being good unless there is a performance advantage, but GR has with no performance advantage. Regional F3, GP3 and GP2 and beat some stellar competition along the way too.

GR and Leclerc are the absolute future IMO. Max could be, but he needs to cool his head and improve his combat race craft.

I would love to do Monaco, hotel room with private balcony overlooking the track - oh, I’ve just woken up o_O

I would highly recommend you do Monaco, even if its on a budget.

You can stay over the border in Italy, somewhere around Menton or Bordeghera and drive over the border in about 20-30 mins. There is some general admission tickets at Ras Casse which are about 100e but a seat in the granstands will set you back 400e +.

Last time I did Monaco was 2014 and had an absolute blast of a time. I found it to be reasonably priced in Monaco for food, drink and things to do. I've certainly spent more on a night out in Bristol and drank more expensive coffee in London that has tasted half as good. Seek out the local places a little higher up away from the centre and youll find some great places.

I've had kids since so its a bit more complicated to go back but I would love to take the boy when hes old enough.

Personally I love my annual pilgrimage to Silverstone, theres no GP circuit like it for atmosphere. Spa and Monza are also great to do for the F1 as well as Goodwood FOS weekend. The Silverstone Classic is also a great weekend with some cool retro cars and a fairly open paddock.

What about Norris and Sainz??

Good but not great.

I think we'll find out how good Norris is against Ricciardo, a proven race winner who is every bit as good as Max and who deserves a top flight seat. You couldnt split him and Sainz but Sainz had a couple of years experience on Norris.

As for Sainz, he didnt match Verstappen at TR and I think he will struggle against Lec. Certainly over 1 lap qualifying at least.

Of all the young drivers out there, Lec and GR are the ones who will shine. Max is quick, very quick, but I think he lacks the mental stamina needed. Makes silly mistakes and doesnt play the long game. We havent seen him in proper combat yet either against Hamilton. Whereas Lec stood up very well in Monza in 2019.
