and here's the fact BMW have NO idea what they are doing.

It hasn't run this well for 4 years - since their nasty later map went on - Note the massive chasm of a dead spot, was exclusively the crazy extra fuel killing the engine at 4250 to 5250 rpm on full throttle - I'm not convinced the minuses are minus 11% fuel, I suspect its minus 11 widgets of adjustment over the mess BMW make. But I suspect 5 widgets = 1 jet size in the old world

the insanity continued.... so I got hold of a set of 5k mile throttle bodies with everything attached (thinking maybe a had a dripping injector or such) and before I the silly tool to pop the clamps had turned up, I swapped over to the younger throttle pot and the bike started to behave its self...

it looks increasingly like the bike went in OK got a new map and magically a free TPS that didn't work ......

a bit like the bike went in for a recall, they saw I hadn't PAID to change the brake fluid for a few years so when I go it back the ABS had gone wrong

Really nice ride down with Theo through the Peak District via Damflask Reservoir, Chatsworth to Carsington Water for lunch at the very nice visitor centre.

Happy place now :)

rode a GS1250 today - its OK (Blobcat don't get upset) - here's a frank summary of my first impressions

missing dynamic pro - which seems odd as it got heated seat and grips, and USB sockets so quite high spec

quite nimble,
front suspension doesn't match the rear - too soft, too little damping
brakes good, but bike gets upset by the suspension issue and becomes a handful under some circumstances
"you can't feel the transition to the high lift cam" ahh - yes you can - its quite marked
New dash doesn't work - why can't why leave two normal analogue dials - its millions of times faster and easier to use
got as sore foot the gear lever is all wrong
after 30 miles I hit "road" rider mode and its a disaster - changes the entire bike's handling for the worse - front goes all wrong
seats a disaster - which is a very normal BMW idea
keyless disaster - and they don't go to sleep, so its theft-tastic
400 pages of software license info on the cluster menus !!!
second hand for not much - I think you'd be quite happy

Needs new forks (back to the bigger diameter of my air cooled one's) and a new front shock set up for grown ups, by grown ups, and a rounded end like the air cooled adventures get on the gear lever and an easier gear change

I also rode a 1250GS today, although mine was the A ;) and didn’t appear to have any of the issues you suffered.

My current and probably my last bike:
S1000R with lightweight factory HP wheels and controls. The MT01 (long since sold) next to it was the complete opposite to it in terms of tech and rider feel. :) DSC02192.JPG

You stop for lots of potty breaks?:p
Dipends… on how I’m feeling…:rolleyes::oops:

But no, is the answer - generally stop after 2 hours for a break

Masham - home of Riggwelter was the stop today - very pleasant cross country run +31’ for most of it - vents all open and keep moving - no over temp issues :)

I had mine taken in by the local family run place for its MOT and health check. All back with a fresh MOT no issues.

They said it caused a stir outside the shop as always and if I’ve given any thought on selling it. Nope I’m happy to maintain it as the garage queen and will look into changing it for something else that may go up in value in due course.

I do miss riding but becoming a single dad with a toddler means no rides for me any time soon.

Blobcat bike

guy lives in a nice part of the world... near the BM dealer 10 miles north of that biker hangout (where the locals ride like fxxxwits), can't believe he's not covering the front brake - no doing so is a great way to die

that's more about mid life crisis

this is a review

and idea how fast the 1290 is 5mins 50 in

you don't do that on the BM or Triumph versions - 6mins 07 in to this one gets caught out by how much speed he got

BMW have issued a modification notice 0033130000 for R1250GSs to have a little vent / drain valve fitted to the cardan shaft housing to all pre 2022 bikes.

Good video link below

Mines booked in for 6th Sept

I got a 2019 K1600 I get a recall for the rear suspension falling off - but they didn't bother to do the work as they can't get enough parts

the link for the mod you have is incredible - they have been doing this sweating / corrosion inside the shaft casing since 2004

A lot is due to over zealous application of the pressure washer around the flexible seal. Very easy to blast past the seals filling the tube with water.

BM along with the Japanese like clean factories so don’t use much in the way of grease… so the splines rust and seize :(
