Just got home from work after seeing something rather amusing...

I was in town and a guy pulled out in front with a *ahem* 'C24 AMG' :?

It was in dark red, with the alloys and the AMG badge although no body extensions to speak of. The only other thing missing externally was the exhaust...this guy hadn't made a bad job of it overall but I couldn't resist cruising by on as much throttle as I could safely get away with just to show him what a AMG should look/sound like...LOL

I just wondered if it was somone on here I passed....? If it was sorry but I couldn't help it! :D

annoyed

unfortunately you are one of the reasons why people give mercedes owners a bad name.
So F***in what he had a amg badge on his 240,he enjoys the driving experience of a mercedes, without jumped up p***** like yourself trying to ridicule him.
Whats the problem ? has some one on the robin relliant owners club site ridiculed you ?
He may not need an extention, unlike yourself, you are pathetic.

Oh Err you seem to be slightly worked up about this.

Obviously Simon came up against someone who was trying to present their car as something it is not. Somewhat annoying when you're in the real thing.

Well done Simon.

I'm with Simon on this one! Trying to pass your car off as something it isn't is simply juvenile and yes one of my cars is a proper AMG (C43)!

my car is a ford fiesta, my car is a vauxhall astra, my car is a so what.
I thought when i purchased my mercedes,i must say i was proud to be owning a car and the prestige that goes with it.
It really dissapoints me,that those of you who are mercedes owners, unless your a company director { tax dodger } don't just smile at others who drive a mercedes rather than ridicule them, smile because you know they are having the driving pleasure as well.
What does it matter whats under the bonnet,or badge on the back,at least he must be proud because it has not been de-badged like alot of mercs and beamers have.
No matter whats under the bonnet,or what badge is on the back, they can all do 70 mph, even the A140 does, correct me if i am wrong,is that the legal speed limit in this country ?
Lets respect each other, and respect other mercedes drivers and not ridicule them.like moronic juveniles.
Power to the working classes

If he was proud of what he was driving then he wouldn't be trying to pass it off as something it clearly isn't.

I have an AMG and am very pleased and proud of that, it does not mean I think any less of someone who "only" has an entry level Merc but I do think poorly of people who clearly use the AMG badge without proper respect. Similarily one of my other cars is a DaimlerChrysler Smart (engineered by Mercedes) but this one does NOT wear a Mercedes badge - because it is NOT BUILT by Mercedes.

I equally have no issue with people "de-badging" their cars, that doesn't devalue the badge or the marque.

Should I ever want an AMG I would have to save up for a long time and hopefully I would be able to afford the C32AMG.

1. I would really be proud of my accomplishment,

2. I would certainly not like it if someone else passes of a different Mercedes to be the same as the one I work hard to own.

On the other hand, we don't know if this guy did take is car to AMG for an aftermarket job... True, then is would be a C240 AMG and not a C24 AMG.

Unfortunately you lost the moral high ground when you resorted to moronic and juvenile language and mounted a personal attack - which if I recall correctly is a breach of the T&C of this forum.

Personally, I have no opinion on the substance of the thread, each to their own and all that.

ive been away for a while, but nice to see we still have the occasional argument... :D

Agree with simon and crew, its silly to try and make a car look like something its not, its just an ego booster and annoying for the people who do own the real thing. I own a 123 200 and im proud!

tee hee - you are keeping quiet about the fact that it's bright yellow though :)

On the other subject - i've no issue with people putting whatever badge they want on their car. At the end of the day it is theirs to do whatever they like with and nobody has the right to tell them what they can and can't do with it.

I've seen cars with Brabus badges on when owners have fitted just one Brabus component such as an exhaust tip. I've seen AMG badges on cars as soon as the owner put an AMG gear lever in and it's not done me any harm :)

How far do we take it? The purists insisting that if you've modified the car in anyway you remove the Mercedes badges from it as it is no longer original?

Blimey it seems while i'm away my thread sort of, well, exploded! LOL Nice! Anyways, without dredging this little lot up again i'd like to point out that I am in fact a company director (anybody need IT support services in the East Midlands?! LOL) and that my C36 is NOT owned by my company, its mine and therefore I get no tax benefit out of it whatsoever.

Anyways, nice to see so many people appearing for the 'defence'

I've watched this thread every time I've logged on and cant help thinking of an interview Jeremy Clarckson did with Anne Robinson.
She had just bought a CL500 and of course he's bought a CL55 and when he tried to take her to task over buying the wrong car She said "what you're trying to say Jeremy is your car has a bigger penis than mine"
Is that what I'm seeing here.. ????

Making out you're something that you're not is a little sad in most walks of life. When I was a kid the guy round the corner had a Lada with XR3i stickers on it. Weird!??

I am very priveleged to be able to own an AMG and very lucky to have been able to work hard and afford one too :D :D
However I also think its great to see other people aspire to this sort of thing and on the way perhaps mod your car a little with a badge or 2 or even other mods such as alloys etc. etc...
I see nothing wrong in personalising your pride and joy, it does'nt matter what others think as long as your happy.
However sometimes they go a bit too far.... saw this on another forum some of you might have already seen it hehe :......

Some OTT reactions in this thread I think!!!

I would have done the same and had a bit of fun with the car if I had seen it.

It's all down to personal opionon but false badging never appeals to me.

However, not like he was pretending - just badging his C240 up as AMG kitted. Funny all the same, thanks for sharing.

De badged cars....

Good thread, lots of emotion.

I once owned a series 2 SWB Land Rover. It wore a scruffy ex electricity board body, but underneath, it was a quite different beast. It had a coil sprung Range Rover chassis with a 6.75 litre V8 Ford motor, 4 speed auto, and ran a nitrous kit.

It was hysterical pulling up next to "proper" Range Rovers, Nissan Patrols, Jeep Chrokees etc and spinning all 4 wheels away from the lights... There was no clue as to the underpinnings of the car, the only give away was a set of plain RR steel wheels with radial rubber on them. The car would do 120 mph but was dangerous at those speeds really....

It was fun having a wolf in sheeps clothing, but the original post did confuse me. Why try to make your car appear as something it is not? I'd like to badge a W124 E class 500E as a 200 diesel and tootle around annoying the boy racers. Much more fun.
