I wish I knew how to change pads

Dead easy though some calipers are easier than others.
There's bound to be a YouTube video detailing the process.

I paid $1100 a couple weeks ago on front pads and rotors.

You should just change tactics so you don’t keep getting “bent over” by the main dealer . By all means get them to service the car in the way of oil and filter change , but all other repair, tyre and brake work , get an honest garage to do it .

If you get told again that they need doing say you will think about it. Then go to a small independent garage (ask around locally for a recommendation). Any competent mechanic can change pads and rotors at about half the price of a main dealer.
This will not affect the service history.
