Well, so much for my replacement driver's seat. The company who quoted called me to say that they were mistaken and didn't have one.

I've found one at a scrappers- correct colour/spec and apparently operational, but with a massive rip to the bolster. Are these detachable parts? If so I could use my existing seat as a donor to repair the ripped one.

Failing that, all the usual breakers/ used parts sources don't have anything available. Could anyone please point me to the best place to get a new driver's seat in black leather?

Yes you can swap the seat leather, but it will be a pain in the..... and you will wish you had bought a whole seat.

If you cant find one though, then its do-able.

Thanks Alexander. I had a local upholsterers quote me for swapping the leather over from one seat frame to another and it's not as expensive as I thought.

On another note, the seat I've found is 3 memory rather than 5 memory. Is the memory held in the seat itself, in the regulator (in which case I presume I could swap them over) or will I be stuck with 3 memories from now on (existing seat is 5 memory).

The memory is controlled by the seat control module in the door.

However, do you mean you have 1-2-3-4-5 memory buttons? I have only ever seen 3?

I believe so- I'm sure there are 5. Can't check now as the car is being serviced.

Do double check as I think all Cl's have the same seat adjustments.

I will do.

OK, while we're on a roll here- the door control panel (where the seat adjustment switches are located) is a bit loose and wobbles around. Is this an easy fix, door card off job, or is it a lot more involved?

Merc only ever did a 3 memory option I believe, I wonder if the seller is a bit mislead, thinking its a full memory seat when he actually only has 3 motors, one for up and down, one for moving the seat to enter the rear seats and the other for the backrest, or did the CL only ever have fully adjustable seats?

Its common for that to be loose. There is a sliding clip that people don't see and pull it off when removing, this snaps the clip. There used to be a repair kit available from Mercedes for this

There used to be a repair kit available (MB Pn A2157208948) but it is no longer available.

I have shoved a bit of card behind mine (between the switches and the door card) to stop it rattling, its not ideal but its really the only option.

On the 5 memory thing, this may be entirely down to me misremembering. I had it in my head but I'm only human. Well, mostly ;)

Regarding the switch panel, is it not possible to take it off the door, and epoxy some sort of clip on the back? If it's real wood (I believe they are) then ordinary CA should work fine.

It is, but the clip is on the plastic section on the back. If the clip is still there then you can epoxy it back on. It may be sitting in the bottom of the door still.

No its "PAnel, repair kit".

If you PM me your VIN number I can tell you the part number for the actual wood bit, as there are many available.

Alex,

I was just thinking about fabricating a new clip. It can't be THAT hard surely...?!

Interestingly a search for that part no both with and without the A comes up as, variously, "Ornamental cover" or "Panel, door panelling" at 583 roubles or $35 depending on where you look. I suspect that the £35 part is the repair kit.

NB this link http://www.mbpartsworld.com/showAss...l=16133&ukey_driveline=0&ukey_trimLevel=20526 when selected shows "Panel: Required 002 repair kit", for $35 I'm fairly certain it isn't the finest MB walnut burr!! Probably the easiest way to find out is when someone orders one.

Worth having the link though.

It shouldn't be, its a sliding plastic jobby so is do-able.

The Wood bit is completely separate to the actual switch bit, see this picture:

The fixing is on the rear left of the switch.[/STRIKE]

EDIT: Sorry, my mistake, the sliding latch bit is on the rear of the wood, you are correct.

OK thanks for the pic. So to remove that from the door... are we talking door off car, or can I access it with just bits of the door interior removed?

No no nothing major like that, door card off will allow you to remove it.

I cant remember, but I think you may be able to get it off without removing the door card.

Just the vent above it (small Philips screw in the middle of the vent) and then that's it.

Do see my updated post above.

I did and I can picture it in my head, thank you for that.

Right, just waiting on a quote for the gashed seat and - fingers crossed - I may be able to get things up and running for the weekend!

Next job- saving for a new set of wheels. Can't afford AMG alloys but I've sourced a lovely set of 5 twin-spoke that aren't too different.
