My Leaf (second but sometimes main car) is £250/month on lease and gets 168 miles fully charged (not as smug as above but nearly so), after 2 years they can have it back
Interested to know more about this Leaf! Some good deals on Leaseloco atm, and thinking about it for a Nursery drop-off/pick-up car ... (child is not old enough yet to comment on car choice in-front of friends :D )

Honestly great little car. We went for the 'basic' model so cloth seats and no parking sensors, other than that it's full of tech. Being able to remotely defrost and heat up in the mornings is proving a real boon for me, as I take it a mile or so in the morning before work to walk the hound. (I've a limited time so want to get him out and into the woods/park asap otherwise i'd walk there). Bot a pod point tethered home charger so it's just a quick plug in whenever it sits on the drive. Boot space is more than adequate, my 18 month old 34kg Viz is very comfy, more than enough seating space for 5 (wouldn't like to do long trips mind, but that's not what this car is for).
My lease was from Intelligent Car Leasing, £250/month, £250 upfront over a 2 year personal lease, 5k/year (Never get near that)
It's now a little less but on a 3 year.....

This is great news. Will look into it some more! Are you on Octopus Go? 5p per kWh between 12:30 and 04:30. Works out to be about 1p per mile. So over the total 10k miles, it’ll cost you £100 in fuel. That’s not including charging at work (if you can!)

Good stuff.
No I'm on a deal with Avro energy which doesn't have an off peak sadly. It's costing us about £12/month for 300 miles on average so about 4p/mile. Thanks for the heads up, I'll have a look when my Avro contract nears its end....I don't charge at work as I take the oil burner there- political reasons because of the industry I work in...(long story)

Still seems like a great deal! Haha I have the same thing (Manufacturing). Somebody brought in a Leaf (old shape) and it spread across the office. We had two chargers at work but the senior management said that employees were not allowed to charge their cars as it wasn’t ‘fair’. So the chargers sat there, empty 24/7. If you do look into, see if a family member is already with them. You both get £50. If not, hit me up and it’ll pay for the first year of my ‘leccy miles!

I'll do that!
That wasn't the politics we had, since I'm a shareholder/part owner it's up to me- I did use a point when I had the i8.
No, we are 85% owned by a German manufacturer of petrol pump nozzles/hoses , so it's not the done thing to have electric cars (although we do have some PHEV's now which save the drivers a fortune in BIK)

Which is the ONLY reason for getting one..

No it isn’t!!!!!, - PHEVs are brilliant - I had one for 6 months and got 237mpg out of it - my daily commute was less than the battery range so I’d charge at work and that would get me home and back to work again.

Problem was, it was so good, I hated when the engine cut in, hence switching to full electric now. They do work well as long as they have a 30ish + mile range ( these ones that will do 10m are a total waste of time) and way cheaper on Co car tax. However full electric is better.

Look at the Kia’s as well - I think the lease on the Soul is a bit more (£260 or so) but superb equipment, every conceivable extra and a genuine 280 mile range (I’ve had over 300) - I cannot recommend it enough. Done many 400+ mile journeys easily with a quick “splash and dash” rapid charge mid journey. Perfectly useable as a main car.

Anyway, I know what you are saying with the engine cutting in, I felt that with the i8 'sometimes' just not as smooth as full electric....

Actually just looked and the Souls and E-Niro’s are a fair bit more now, those leafs are a good deal.

If you can live with the range the Smart four four electric’s a bargain (170 pm ish) but very small battery.

The leafs are certainly the cheapest “decent range” electric car at the moment.

Zoe's are cheap! You can often get 8k+ knocked off the asking price, and real world 150-180 mile range on the *ZE50

*Should read ZE40

150m isn't a decent range though - I am thinking of charging when I am down to that! Admittedly I dont have a home charger, so I have to plan ahead, but I couldn't contemplate an electric car without a 200m + range.

The Soul has a 282 range, which drops to 240 in the middle of winter (i.e. now) so a 150m range on a Zoe would be 100-120m in winter, and that's just impossible- it goes from being a viable car to a city runabout or 2nd car. I use mine all the time, for any trip and never worry about range, or making it home!

Also the zoe is ugly (imho) and not great to drive - thats why you can get them with 8k off! It almost doesn't matter how cheap they are if the range isn't enough to use as a main car.

Compare that to the e-Niro - no discount and still a 3 month waiting list and that shows the relative desirability.

That is real world range, not advertised range.

Kia Soul Advertsed range 280miles Starts £36k
Zoe ZE50 Advertised range 245miles - starts £27k

We have 23,000 miles on ours after 18months. Commute daily. Its soul sucking, but so is a Kia? Same can be said RE looks, both cars are not exactly design masterpeices.

We get real world 180miles in the summer on our ZE40.

To me, the current offerings from Kia and Renault are comparable.

I would disagree - the Kia's are way better built and drive far better although I agree neither will win in the looks area!

282m range on the Kia is claimed, but also real - i have had 308m out of it and the range still said 8m left..... so thats 60% more, even now I'm getting a range on the dash of 242 on a full charge but getting well over 250. I agree its dearer, but the Kia is way better equipped, radar cruise, heated leather seats and steering wheel, massive Sat nav with live traffic and speed cam updates, electric seats, nicer finish (agree thats an opinion), an app that does everything, 7 year warranty, and it just works seamlessly, had no issues..... I just find Renault too cheap and plasticky.

Each to their own, but if I had my time over I'd look at a 60kw leaf or the Kia again, the Renault wouldn't be on my radar even with the new bigger battery - and do you own the battery or is it still leased?

Battery owned, Battery lease is a waste of time.

I have driven lots of both, and would class Kia and Renault interiors as the same. Could be the models I have driven though?

Even based on that its, 10k more expensive?

Yes and if it wasn't for the wait I'd have gone for the e-Niro 3 with the longer range

I view the Soul I have as a "Tesla for those who can't afford a Tesla" rather than a step up from a Zoe, viewed like that its a bargain.

No, it won't hit 60 in 3 sec - but up to 50mph it will surprise many hot hatches, and 50-70(cough... 75?) For overtaking its punch is spectacular, the tech is both useful, and works perfectly and inside is a nice place to be with leather and so forth.

The main thing for me is that it has a way way better range than Merc, Audi Jag, Nissan etc and gets decently close to a Model 3 - see here

Anyone can claim any range they like, utterly like MPG some manufacturers distort more than others.

It was quite cold when they did the test, and to be honest the Kia gets by far the closest to the claimed range (about 96% from memory) some of the others were at 70 odd % which is no good at all.

The only other car I'd buy in that test is the Tesla if I had the money, otherwise the Kia every time.....

So I'm new to the whole Phev malarkey and recently acquired a 17reg 350e. If you only get 9 miles per charge does the cost of the charge and time come down or go up? PS with clean air charges springing up around the country I still feel its a great buy for the future.
