I checked on the govt website about the increase of E10 petrol happening this year, and its impact on our cars.

Beware!

quote from govt page, maybe check with MB too!

Mercedes-Benz

E10 petrol is cleared for use in the vast majority of all Mercedes Benz vehicles with petrol engines, except:
  • First generation direct injection C200 CGI (W203), CLK 200 CGI series (C209) of the years 2002 – 2005;
  • Models not equipped with three-way catalysts, models retrofitted with three-way catalysts or produced with a carburettor. These are mainly vehicles older than 25 years.

E10 is terrible stuff, looking like Super Unleaded only for my 1993 Honda Motorbike now.

People keep saying this but I've had no problems with it and we use loads when we go to France. The 129 pretty much lives on the stuff and sits for months at a time unused and the ride on mower can easily go 7 or 8 months between starts.

I've also not had an issue and my 1997 Kawaskai Engined John Deere starts first time after a 5 month layup with old fuel in. I've read quite a few articles in bike mags and fuel lines are suffering, so I'll probably switch to Super for the Honda as I use it so little - quite a lot could be scaremongering / covering their backsides

I also wonder how much is the usual concentration of issues found on forums.

Very common fuel here in Oz with little or no issues. Only real issue is with early model vehicles with unsuitable fuel lines that react to the ethanol. It is actually a higher octane than normal unleaded. They quote 95 versus 91. I have used it consistently for many years with no issues. 4c/litre cheaper but supposedly has less energy and gets slightly less mpg. I don't notice the difference if I use standard unleaded.

With mowers, you should ideally drain the fuel when laying up the mower. Chuck the fuel in the car. Run the mower till it cuts out and spray carb cleaner in the air filter inlet.
Although your mower starts at the moment, with old fuel in it will start to gum up the carb needles and you may find after a many years it gets worse to start.
I have 2 ride on mowers now al,ost 20yrs old from new and mint. They have never been in the mower place for repairs and its what was my first steps into engine / machine maintenance.

My John Deere is 24 years old and starts first time, if I remember I switch the fuel off when I put it away in the winter... ;)

Hi Guys, silly question maybe but in September E5 unleaded will be phased out and replaced with E10, i have a 2002 W220 S500 and want to know if E10 will be ok to use or il have to use Superunleaded instead? And by using this long term would it cause any problems within the fuel system or engine, any input would be helpful. Ta.

E10 will be fine.
Same engine as our R230.
My 1993 129 500SL is also fine.
Anything before 1993 is questionable.
600s have a possible issue.
CGI engines have an issue.

No debate here... Your car, your money, your choice :)
I might try superunleaded in mine just to see what happens? My beast is fast enough as it is due to what ive done to it so god knows how quick it would go with super juice in it?
