I'm looking at getting a w219 CLS. I've got 2 in mind at the moment. A 350cdi grand edition or a 2005 500AMG.
Both are similar mileage but the 500 has air suspension and a V8 and is £2500 cheaper than the 350 which is obviously newer and the facelift model.

Is the 350 worth an extra £2500 or is the 500 V8 an unmissable opportunity.

Thanks

Hello and welcome

The 500 isn’t an AMG... that would be a 55 or 63

In the current world climate I’d have the V8 every day of the week.

Go for the V8. Even better if it’s a 55 Kompressor...

Thanks, I tend to agree.
Are there any specific items to look out for?

(I know it's not the 55 or 63 but it's advertised as AMG and has the badge. Would it just be a sports trimmed model? )

It’s just a badge that has been added to make it look more than it is...
The V8 500 is a very nice car.

As Blobcat. No, there was no AMG Line trim package offered at this point. It will be an Avantgarde trim with an AMG badge.

Everyone should have at least one V8 in their lifetime

Owned a low mileage GE for five years , the things that needed done on a newish low mileage car was a constant source of disappointment in the brand for a car that cost around £50k + new. It did look pretty and went well enough for a heavy vehicle but i lost faith in it and wasn`t enjoying owning it so it had to go.

I very much doubt that any will be problem free but the oil burner may be the cheaper to run over your ownership if that is a consideration, but it is not a 5.0L V8 , although with a remap it wont be far off performance wise.

Air suspension is nice , but costly to put right when it needs repaired, the facelifted diesel may have more bells + whistles than the petrol.

As they say - you pays your money and you takes your choice.
