Very interesting Colin,I used to do all this while working on other customers cars, but I enjoyed it, problem with old cars is getting old Rusty bits of, nice to see the new parts going on. Still cheaper than buying a new car ,and wish they made cars like this now, also the price will always go up. Hope this helps

A few.
All good stuff but with the time & money you're throwing at this do you think it might have been an idea to start with a more desirable model, say a good spec 2.6 or a 16v?

Similar restoration costs but a much more valuable & sought after car at the end.

Eh, no!! It's the car I wanted, didn't want a 2.3 or 2.6!! Don't like the engines and they are still asking good money, not doing it for resale value, doing it for myself!

And why not, I am always being told to get the AMG versions of what I have, I love what I have, and they are what I wanted. :D:D

Your a man of many talents Col.

Hi Brian. The good news is that, when you come to refurbishing Lizzie, there should be no rust.

besides which the cost of a similar condition 2.3 or 2.6 etc would be probably 3 times the cost of the car in question just to BUY never mind the refurb cost

A fascinating thread Cole covering a very nice car.
Always wanted one since I was taken on a trip to Tar Steps on Exmoor by a business associate in one many many years ago. I got to drive it all the way home and had fell in love with it by the time I hit the M3. Way better than my old Morris Marina, obviously!!

Why are the 2.3 and 2.6 so much more expensive and sought after?

The 2.3 mentioned was the 2.3-16 'Cosworth' model which are becoming collectable.
The 2.6 had the wonderful M103 straight six engine. That engine in a W201 makes for a perfect marriage. Silky smooth with lots of torque when needed.
