Hi everyone I'm new and know sweet FA about the mechanical side of cars but here is my situation, my dad passed away 2 years ago and left me his 04' S320 and at first I wanted to sell it as I thought it wasn't going to be for me (loved my Toyota Celica) but after driving it, it was like seeing for the first time! Beautiful car! Saying that had many problems and got everyone fixed at a hefty cost every damn time but after having literally every part of the suspension replaced, new bushes everywhere, new roll-bar and brakes checked the car creaks like mad when even slightly touching the steering wheel seems you only hear/feel it when driving slow/parking any ideas because I'm ready to part ways with the best car I've ever driven!!! :(

Has the car been standing still a long time? Does the steering system have any leaks? Do you get any (additional) sound when actually using the steering wheel or also when just standing still? The suspension replacement parts you got, what brand were they? El-Cheapo or Lemforder/OEM?

Could be the rubber gaiter where the steering column passes through the bulkhead.

Thanks for the replies the parts have all been proper Mercedes parts you can't own an S-class and put cheapo parts on it I couldn't sleep at night! One thing I have noticed is that today was the first cool day (especially with the rain) and the car never made a sound! Over the hot weekend it was creaking like mad even when the engine was off and the steering obviously not moving you could hear the creaking when ppl got in and out and I pressed the front down on both sides and it was creaking again very easily so I'm wondering maybe this is worse than I thought like maybe the chassis or something to do with the body with the metal work being warm and creaking when it's expanding with the heat???

I think that I would spray all the roll bar rubbers and links with silicon or PTFE with 3 in 1 oil. As its fine when wet, it must be the suspension causing it.

Thanks bud It's been another wet day today I had it down the motorway and no sounds again at all at any time, it did however display the ABS and ESP warning lights and I lost the power steering so when I got back I took it to the garage to get it booked in for a diag and as soon as I left it had fixed itself I swear to god I've never known a car like this! I'll post again if the creaking comes back and I have sprayed it with the 3 in 1 oil, again many thanks it's much appreciated.

PTFE mixed with 3 in 1 sold by Halfords in aerosol cans.

You can soft reset the bas, esp and airmatic warnings by turning the steering to full left lock, then full right lock.

As for the creak could be a number of things already mentioned above. Could also be worth a quick power steering fluid flush and refresh.

An independent Mercedes specialist, the guy has been working on Mercs for a long time his business is called Merxworx, with me not knowing much about mechanics I have to put my trust in someone and he seems pretty good.
