It would be interesting (although quite difficult, I suspect) to research whether there is any correlation between (certain) faults and how long a car has been standing around waiting to be sold after being manufactured.
Like whether there is a "sweet spot" of, say, 1-2 months. Perhaps certain slowly-perishable elements like rubber bushings etc. deteriorate quicker if they have been experiencing no movement/use for the first year of their fitting.
On the other hand, one can speculate that if a car is used immediately after it is rolled off the assembly line some elements still need to "settle in" and not allowing for this might make premature failure more likely. Interesting stuff although hard to really objectively investigate. Not in the least because so many factors come into play.. the storage conditions/environment, the subsequent driving and usage style of the first owner, etc...
