Hi,
I need some non-jargon help! I have just put a deposit down on a 2011 a class a160 even though I spied fur on one of the auxiliary battery’s terminals.
When I test drove the car the start/stop didn’t function but since then the car has been taken for a drive, the batteries both checked (very good) and the start/stop worked fine.
I managed to get £300 off the price so now I feel very awkward asking for the auxiliary battery to be changed “it’s probably moisture” I was told!
No need to point out that I shouldn’t have put the deposit down thanks, just need to know how much of an issue the auxiliary battery is if one of the terminals has furred. To be fair all cars have been sitting on forecourts for the last 12 weeks.

Fairly normal, and - assuming the battery can hold its charge - an easy job to clean and protect the terminals.

Chances are that the battery terminals can easily be cleaned & then protected by Vaseline or proprietary battery protector. Not sure about the price of a new auxiliary for your car but the prices on others vary according to vehicle & manufacturer, but try looking on E bay for a battery from a good battery seller with high feedback score

Sounds like the car hasn't been used for a while. I would charge both batteries first, & then see how they preform before buying a new one.

As said the battery(s) will loose charge when the car is stood waiting for sale and shouldn’t be a problem when the car is used regularly. The other thing to check is tyre pressures before you drive the car away the times I have experienced under inflated tyres when driving a car home after buying it.

Thank you everyone who has replied; I feel much more at ease and can’t wait to begin driving it!

Thank you. I bought the car and all is working ok but I am absolutely gutted that the wing mirrors do not fold!!!! I live in a very narrow street and I can’t even fold them manually!

There's always something we overlook when choosing a car. Our second car is an Astra GTC. It doesn't have electric folding mirrors either. Only a couple of decades ago, no cars had that facility. It's a fairly new source of disappointment.

Are you sure you can't fold them manually. Sometimes they can be a bit stiff if previous owner/owners haven't folded them in. Have a play around with them using a bit of WD or the like into any joints you can see.
