E300TD 1992 mileometer and trip not working

Hi, I am a newbie to this site having just bought the above car and discovered mileometer is not working. What can I do to get them going again? Speedometer working but occasionally flickers. Please help

If speedo flickers and is uneven under 30mph and above 65mph then both my w124s have done that all the time i've had them and i don't think it's related to the mileometers (which both have kept working)

The plastic gear can break up, you can buy the new ones

Remove speedo head from cluster, and u will see a gear has come out of mesh, push it in but the hard bit is to get it to stay there. Try closing plastic around spindle.
