ESP fault a210

Hi

I'm new to this forum so please bear with me.

I have an 02 A210, the other day the abs/ESP light came on and it went into limp mode.

I took it to my local garage who told me to go to my local mercedes garage. They plugged it in and said I need a new ESP control unit which they could supply and install for £1250!!!!

Since then it drives fine but the warning light that looks like an engine stays on but the abs/ESP light doesn't? Is this right?

I have managed to source a new control unit for £150, can I just unplug the old and plug in the new?

Please help

The price for that control unit is about correct, i have fitted 2 in the last year, i use a company in Poole which i found to be the cheapest at £250, so please share your supplier please,

Once you have a new unit, it then has to be coded using star!!

Its not plug and play, a driving cycle after coding is needed to teach the unit its parameters!!

I wonder is this is worth soldering up,,and it is listed as getting bad connections where it plugs in,,would it be worth spraying with a good nondrying switch cleaner

Talking of soldering Malc, while your in the "zone" on thursday, we have a A class engine control module and a cluster of a 209 which is totally dead if you feel brave???

I will do the 170 on the spot,, the others I would have to bring back owing to the amount of dismantling

The engine ECU is off our other A class, the cluster is off a customers car, dont know how long we can have it, Many thanks anyway, lunch on us then thursday!!!!!

Hi, thanks, what should I expect to pay for the star coding? The comany I found is www.dronsfields.com. Is the engine looking light normal?
