FIXED! 2017 E Class Spare Key Problem

Hi! I bought a spare used key for my 2017 E-Class, and before I go to a local shop to pair it with my car, I was wondering if the LED on top of it should light up whenever I press a button on the key. I changed the battery too and it doesn't light up. Is the key defective or it won't light up unless the car is paired and in range?
It's the model in the photo.

Never mind. I put two batteries in it and both were discharged despite them being sealed. It lights up with the new battery

I'm afraid you have wasted your money. A spare key cannot be programmed to work in another car.
Visit the dealer with your V5 and some ID and order a new one. Expect to pay around £250+

It’s not, you can spend north of £300 on many run of the mill manufacturers car keys

Grand. Spare key for my 16 Yr old aclass was just under 300 quid from benz. Prob not far of present value of car.

In reality I shud have just " found" a way past key issue. I can assure u no one in Africa going to give 300 for a key!
The fact is a grand is nothing now. Prob I 64 and 300quid is "something" to me for sure. I started on 9.80 a week. My old man taught me, look after pennies, pounds look after them self's. Soon coins will dissappear anyway.

thats not the point. Its security and merc are very secretive about key programmng otherwise anyone would be buying a ten pound and knicking cars with them.
Its just easy now with KG....
