It's just a matter of choice, i don't want "seriouse abuse" of my car, neither do the insurance companies and people who buy cars from remappers.

I am not having a go at what you do, i know it's a knowlegable subject, i just go for longevity and the tolerance which MB put in their very good cars, i have owned mine from new, and now it has 215,000 on the clock, 35 mpg, carries 6 people, will sit at a ton all day. herbiemercman.

I suspect a lot of remapping is done in trial and error...... And I'm almost certain this is the case on the post you are quoting.
My own car (the vauxhall) has been remapped, it was done 3 years ago as a test for the guy who did it.... I wanted more torque for pulling my caravan and to be able to get out of 4th!!
It did take about 6 tries to get it right, although it still can be a bit sharp if driven carelessly in the wet. I had an assortment of errors, over fuelling, over boosting, early boost drop, car running to cool, car running too hot..... Got it right in the end though!

Although this very thread is starting to become very boring, with no results, no out come just lots of mentions of gad tuning.

Unsubscribing it tonight I think.

Hi Jim, Thanks for your comments. I have owned my car from new and with the help of this club's members i have done the servicing and most of repairs myself etc, 215,000 on clock now.

One of the key joys of ownership is knowing the car is "spot on", in engineering terms as i am a qualified engineer and i would not like to experience the remap problems which you describe, it's a bit like whipping a horse to me, i'd sooner have a good horse that keeps running for longer, knowing i have looked after it, i am a "diesel head", so as i have said earlier, it's just choice and what we are about as a person.

I hope you didn't take me wrong...... the comment about the thread was in relationship to constant advertising and very little else!

You've hit the nail on the head with the way of life thing...... Its unlikely the CLK will get anything 'Mickey mouse' done to it!!

I too will be doing the oily bits on this one - petrol is my drink of choice over diesel - I can understand having a car 'messed with' in order for it to do what you require of it (towing for example) but I'm not a big fan of 'because i can' mechanics
I will be looking at ways of getting the CLK to drive how I'd like it too, using suspension mods etc, but as its a low mileage, well looked after car, I'll not be forcing it to do things it isn't designed for

I'm sure mapping cars has improved in leaps and bounds since the vauxhall was done, and my next company car will likely have the same treatment - is a case of being given a tool for work and forcing it to do what i want it to do! Don't be thinking I'd do it to my own baby without serious guarantees!!!!!

Hi Jim,

This is not the case. I cant even begin to explain how much reasearch and develop goes into software development. We even take 3 months to develop some software and perfect what we already have such as our brit cars 1MG per stroke of fuel extra can make the difference between winning and loseing a race !

Remapping is 98% based upon calculations and you can accuratly trace and predict with great acuracy the end result.


Can we please stay on topic, If you have any other questions related to remapping please PM me as this thead is being hijacked by comments unrealted to the title.

hi william, As the previouse post said,you are advertising, we are not hijacking, we are just expressing our negative opinion on remapping good cars.

You should have stated in your opening thread that you just want posts that are pro remaps, and interested in trying one. herbiemercman.
