Can you change over the pipes to feed from the rear working washer in the meantime.. until you get time to sort it for real, also worth blowing and cleaning nozzles just to make sure u dont have a blockage

This happened on a Vauxhall Omega I used to own. It turned out it was the filter on the washer system that had become blocked. Simple fix by unclipping the filter and giving it a wash! Not sure if MB uses a filter or not, but may be worth looking.

Pump failure is uncommon. A complete blockage of the front washers would either be at some point in the line common to both sides, or concurrent blockage of all the jets (which is possible but unlikely).

That would suggest either a filter blockage, or a foreign body either at the exit from the reservoir (visible), or along the line or at the bifurcation of the line where it splits to go to the jets.

If nothing can be seen, it might be worth trying to blow the line out from the washer end, back towards the reservoir. At least you will be able to prove that the line is patent.

If you remove a blockage and it still does not work, change the fuse to the pump, which might have failed because of the blockage.

Good luck, and tell us what the culprit was, when you find it.

Just a question, but does it have a fuse?

It would be doubtful if there was a fuse for this alone,,and is likely to be shared by other components

Good point Malcolm, and can be a clue if other items do not work and the fuse is the common factor.

The OP did say there was power at the pump, so I'm hoping it is a mechanical blockage in the water supply line.

what about taking a direct 12vdc feed to the pump to see if it fires up, this will give a better indication of where the fault is. if manual power feed starts the pump and water jets work, it leave a lot less possibilities and will take just a few mins to test

There are many parts to this,,the stalk goes to the N80 steering control module,,its all CAN controlled,, throught the SAM. STAR will be the only way to sort it I think

hi sorry about the reply's but we went away to sunny suffolk and very nice it was, anyway checked the old pump with a direct feed worked fine but had already fitted the new pump, there is power at the two pin connector but it won't work from the stalk, its not blocked as i swopped delivery pipes over from the rear, the indicator stalk looks a b*****d to remove, i was wondering if merc might pick up this repair considering the year 05 fairly low mileage 39k but have yet to have any dealings with mertrux as i have only had the car 5 weeks

If it is the stalk,,and it could be,,some pull off the end cap and spray switch cleaner down the tube, with some success

There will be a non return valve around where the tube splits into 2 so bear in mind that an air line might not clear the blockage so it might need to be disassembled to clean properly… that is, if that is the cause of the problem.

See also… http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?t=38617 not your car, but should be a similar set up.
