When I was up the ladder fitting those rafters it felt like a couple of hundred feet high
There will be a periscope going in when I finally fit the freestanding gas fire, be a bit warmer than the temperature in the garage at the moment ;)
Fixed it for you... ;)

It'll certainly be a bit warmer up in the rafters :D You'll have to elevate one of your workbenches up there :)

High enough roof for a loft

There is plans ahead, although they are distant plans, the Missus has now said that she is going to spend 'her money' on what she wants and not want I want. Well to be fair she has bought me cars, cruises, a lorry and now a big garage :D bless her. Now my turn to buy her a nice Christmas present

You need to get that right or you'll be on "Mother-in-Law diet" (cold shoulder and hot tongue) for months! Good luck - that diet is no fun at all!!

>>>High enough roof for a loft

So useful for lightweight clutter.

Our garage has a very high pitch to the roof... the next house type up with little increase in size has a fifth bedroom there. So I boarded the central area where there is standing room and it's been so useful for light but bulky stuff like large boxes, spare chairs, large travel cases and much more. Access is just via a ladder which is permanently in place.

I have done well in the past with nice gifts for her, Electric knife for the kitchen, ironing board, luckily she already had an iron otherwise it would have been a useless gift.

"Filling up" being very appropriate for your cars..... .... Ok, No more water comments.........;)

 :( ..............It actually fills up more when the SLK coming in from a wet day, the water can't find its way into the SLK so falls off the car and onto the garage floor :p

If its only going to be occasionally heated can I recommend a small infrasun as it would be more efficient and cost effective at heating an area that size.

I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago for my garage but guessing it is only half the volume of yours 00slk. its got its own thermostat so temp can be regulated. so far I'm mighty pleased when working on the Mustang on these winter evenings.

Funny you should mention that Kev, I was looking at similar ones a few days ago when the 2500watt one packed up, not that it was for use in the garage. I have a gas fire that will go in later, but as you point out it is a good unit for temporary heating. My mate has one that he used when I was working on his car in January, it got that hot inside his draughty garage we had to switch it off.

I'm really pleased with mine as its quiet fume free and seems easy on fuel. I had a smaller rocket type but it was too noisy, you couldn't hear yourself think with it on. I went for that type of one as it also had a thermostat fitted which works well so I dont have to keep switching it off and on all eve

In the panelshop at Audi/VW we had a massive one 4ft in length and run on parifin, that too was noisey, bit like an aircraft but filled the place up with fumes.

Had one like that years ago, bought it at an auction cheap. It was a great heater but like standing behind a jet engine ready for take off:D when it ran out of fuel it would have choked the place with fumes before you could get it switched off. Funny enough i used that same heater for respraying.

Talk about coincidence... .I worked in a VW / AUDI workshop too.. ( Panel beating and mechanics ) and the heater we used had a barrel on top, and the fuel tank underneath? With a handle on it and two wheels underneath for moving it around? and plugged into 220v wall socket? Positively evil smoking monster when the filter got dirty, or it was running out of fuel. Was part of the apprentices job to refuel it daily, even before sweeping the floor and tidying up the tool's.:oops:

Sounds like exactly like the one me 00slk had Jim. Cant remember the make of it but I remember crimping the plastic fuel pipe with a bit of steel fixers wire to cut the fuel off a bit to stop it being so Smokey:D

Does anyone remember those old vertical cylindrical waste fuel heaters that you lit, they didn't plugin.

The metal walls used to get red hot, as a nod to elf and safety they would get some heras fencing round them.

Just can't remember the name?

I think they punched a hole in the ozone layer directly above them and Co2 formed a blanket over the surrounding area.
