J just switched to a 2017 GLE and found it has a minispare under the boot floor and all the tools for a wheel change. T suspect it is fairly rare in the light of previous posts about spare wheels/lack of/in many new Mercs.

Lucky or what? Except I can't find the location for the warning triangle = possibly spare wheel option designed for USA where triangle not mandatory in most or all statesl

On my 'new' ML the spare & the rest of the kit has the same layout as yours & the warning triangle is tucked down the right hand side (as we look) of the spare wheel.

Very nice to see!

How are you getting on with the GLE? I am considering one, after a brief look at AMG models, I think sense and the forum has convinced me it may not be a wise move!

The GLE appears to be getting a little dated and new model is now out, but in that price range, does not seem to be anything else out there which will be as comfortable and feature packed! How are you finding the drive and features?

The UK standard warning triangle is in a red box that fits in the right hand side of the moulding in the boot floor as your picture, below image is mine. The spare was standard on my MY 2017 GLE AMG Line Premium Plus

Are you conflating the remarked steering geometry on the GLC that is commonly reported, and the solution of fitting all season tyres?

The W166 GLE in this thread was the last iteration of the W164 M Class, then the W165 ML Class and finally the W166 GLE. There are very few GLEs on here. Generally they are well regarded with bullet proof engines and transmissions.

The W166 is more refined than earlier iterations, having the V6 diseasel and 9g gearbox. The new GLE has the new straight 6 diseasel in the 350 & 450 guise.

I and EmilysDad require a tug to tow large caravans. The GLE is a good tug, better than a Disco 4 in my experience, having towed a large caravan with both and my previous W221 S350. I changed to the GLE as the new W222 doesn't have the kerb weight required.

With the airmatic suspension it rides extremely well. The various driving aids make it a fantastic tow car, it basically drives itself. Solo it is a great cruiser, bare in mind it is a 2.3tonne brick, very tall so don't expect mpg of the S Klasse.

I have a mate that has a Range Rover Autobiography, his wife and daughter find the GLE a more comfortable ride.

There may be deals to be had with the introduction of the new version. Road tax is high for post April 2017 versions due to initial list price, over double of mine.

And I reinforce all that keefysher has written about the W166 iteration of the GLE. It displays those virtues which define a Mercedes Benz. Unlike the GLC which I think isall bling!!

Well thank you all.
We currently have a 250d GLC which the wife drives and will keep it. We are looking at a GLE for myself to drive daily to work.

I have found one spec as below:
Black with Black artico
Premium Pack
2016 May registration
Mileage of 18k
Private sale.

I am very tempted to buy it. First service was done in May 2017 by MB main dealer. Second service by MB Tech Warrington (appears to be a specialist) in June 2018. It will be due an MOT and service within the next couple of months. Still under factory warranty. I am sure the car will lose a lot of money in the coming two years given intro of the new model. But cannot see anything else out there which will be a large and comfortable car. I need to decide by tomorrow ideally!

I previously had a 2012 (62 Registration) ML 350. It appears to be a very similar car, same engine and gearbox I would guess. So just hoping spending that much money will not just give me the feeling of getting that old car back again!

Any views?

(Apologies for the thread hi-jack, if I do buy it, first thing I will do is check the spare wheel and post a pic if it has one!)

Can you give a rough indication of your MPG not towing on a steady motorway run?....am in two minds between the 4 or 6 cylinder...

Thanks....

You’d probably be better with a new thread, get more visibility....
What engine does it have?
Oh and MB tech are well respected so you can be fairly certain they performed a good service..

See my post in respect of a day out on Saturday that involved 500 miles of mixed roads, that returned 38.3mpg:
https://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/...e-you-done-to-your-merc-today.98760/page-1199

At a constant 1300rpm/70mph on the motorway it gives approx 40mpg. Thats with the 3.0l V6 diseasel in 9th gear. It'll get better with more miles, its only on 20k at the moment, not run in yet.

I tend to use the odometer/tank full as my measure of fuel consumption, that gives me c600 miles to a tank when the light comes on in mixed driving.

The V6 3l diseasel is a good lump. The 4 cylinder would be underpowered, noisy and you'd know it was working hard, with probably worse consumption than the 6 cylinder.

EmilysDad has a 14 plate ML/GLE with the 7 speed box, he may have a feel for consumption in his first few weeks ownership, although he tows too, which is what we use the GLE/ML for.

I've always gone for the biggest engines available, as our cousins over the pond say 'its cubic inches that count'.

Will review your other post on the GLE you are looking at.

If I use it for the 20 odd mile commute, the trip computer shows almost 30mpg. That's driving with a fairly light foot but not taking forever to get up to speed. Towing back from the Peak district last week on mostly A/B roads with a large twin axle, it showed 21/22mpg which I thought was pretty good .... very slightly better than the R Class.
Overall, pretty good so far for something as aerodynamic as an Accrington house brick ;)

Not sure if you found your warning triangle, but remember they are compulsory in most EU countries.
