Hi I am new to the club and forum and was wondering if anyone else has had a problem with their windows opening slightly by themselves. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to this and it is very intermittent but it's damned annoying to say the least. Any help from anyone or info gratefully received.
The car is a 2016 GLE 250 amg.

Cheers

Welcome,

Is it happening while your in the car with it running, or is it when your unlocking the car?

Hi Matt
I am pretty sure it only happens when I am unlocking the car. It doesn't happen whilst driving.

Not heard of this and I guess its a bit of a ball ache to get your car to a dealer to look over (presumably Inverness or Aberdeen via ferry?). Hopefully someine will have experienced it, or given your location would MB help be able to do anything by phone for you?

Have you tried resetting the window synchronisation? It should be in your handbook and usually needs doing if the battery has been low.

From memory, you need to be in the car with the doors closed and the ignition on but engine off. Press and hold the window down switch until it is fully open and then hold for around 5 seconds. Then pull it up until it is fully closed and, again., hold for another 5 seconds. You may hear a click when that is done to show it has reset. Repeat for the other windows.

This is all from memory so perhaps any of the electrical experts on this forum may have more exact instructions! ;)

what does opening slightly mean ?
what does it is very intermittent mean?

if you want people to help diagnose, I'd give lots more info on how you are interacting with the vehicle when you think this happens and full details of what you observe to be a / the fault.

I guess you are aware various rag tops and pillarless coupes bring the windows 10mm down to pop then out of the door seals whenever you open the doors? when you close they pop back in holding them inside the seal to reduce rain and noise ingress? This technology has been around for 12 years (my fathers w124 needed it so you could close the doors, was so air tight you'd need a run up to slam the doors closed.

other cars can get comfort access which can allow the remote key fob to open all the windows to get the heat out on a hot day. mostly seen as a security risk these days and I think disabled on BMWs as a result

Sorry to see you have had a reply from a real SA asking the meaning of intermittent etc suggest he buys a dictionary. I too have had the same problem now three times. Having returned to vehicle to find all windows open 25 mm and the front roof blind open by a similar amount. Try as I might have only repeated the situation once despite trying about twenty times ( Note this is what intermittent means)
Very lucky one time as car was on my drive and just happened to go to put it in the garage as it started to rain, much later and it could have been very soggy!

I didn't think he was being a SA, just trying to help!
Anyway, have you tried the window reset procedure Steve mentioned earlier in the thread?

It's not for you to get personal with another member. Botus was absolutely correct...what exactly does the OP mean...I don't know. Neither do you so keep remarks like that to your self.

Now OP explain exactly what you mean.

My bet is you are holding the unlock button too long when onlucking it and activating the comfort opening feature. If you oress and hold the unlock button they drop all thw way down and go all the way up with the lock button.

That would have been my second guess!

Yes, and no it achieved nothing.
News Update
I have been in contact with MB head Office (three days ago) and they state the partially open windows is a FEATURE NOT A FAULT
further they stated that they would send two emails on the clearly state how to activate the feature and a second to detail how to did enable it. one day later I contacted them again to be told that the emails were under review for spelling errors and would be sent shortly. I am still waiting. If the emails ever arrive I will post them on the site.

It's an anti glass rattle engineering feature due to the door structure concept.

Racerroy- this is a ridiculously helpful forum full of highly knowledgable people who will think nothing of spending hours aiding other members diagnosing and fixing faults and other issues. Botus is one of those guys.

Way to go with the making friends and influencing people thing there, chap.

I don't know if there is a connection but Janets SLC, which is of a similar age had a problem with the rear small windows. ( we used to call them quarter lights ) In her case it was a known Merc software upgrade, which required workshop attention.
Regards, Alec.
