Help! Mercedes technicians still not fixed car!

Hi all I am very desperate for any advice you can give
My A-Class 1.6 2013 had a reconditioned engine fitted in July - first day back and after 20 miles the car felt like it was going to stall (juddering) in 5/6 gear engine light came on - car went back to Mercedes technicians who carried out numerous wiring tests and catalytic converter clean out - said it was fine had it 2 days same problem again this time just got me home and was juddering bad in 2/3/4 gear! - car went back to same garage - after 6 weeks they determined that it was the wiring and pins to no. 1 ignition coil and this has been replaced as well as no. 1&4 coil pack trigger wires - finally got car back today and guess what? After 30miles it did the juddering again in 4th gear and engine light came on! Pulled over switched off and waited 5 minutes - turned on fine no engine light and got home (5miles) with no juddering - although the garage have done what they can (I think!) I have now lost faith With them and am down in total £4400 with the replacement engine etc... Any ideas what could be the actually problem that needs to be fixed? I have lost confidence in driving the car and really feel I’m at a dead end!

Couple of questions.
Why did it get a recon engine? What happened to the original engine?
Is this a Mercedes Benz main dealer or an independent?
An engine shake or judder caused by anything that lights an EML (was it orange or red?) would almost always leave a history trace that the dealer could read.

The turbo was going a day before lockdown - needed to use car as a key worker so because if this it caused damage to the engine - Then it just completely failed! the garage kept the original engine. The garden is independent Mercedes technicians - it’s an orange engine light that comes on - I think this has baffled the technicians! Hubby has taken the car to work today driven 70miles he said it’s just happened once and then is was fine again - I’m not sure if for peace of mind we need to take it to a dealership for a full diagnostics but just concerned of the cost! More concerned whatever is happening it’s not damaging the engine

so let me get this straight , the garage have basically being throwing parts at your car at your cost , my partner lives in Hull , I have MB2 and would be willing to plug into the car to see what I can find Lynsey

Turbos, rarely fail. A failing turbo is not immediately turbo related but something accessing the turbo and why then a complete engine replacement...I am baffled.

this is the PSA unit is it not ? if so they regularly fail due to timing chain failure , as you think Mioba , turbo failure on petrol engine rarely causes total failure and a blown tubby usually means you cant see anything following behind you

dont get stressed OP, everything can be fixed/repared to running right again, It was all put together one day from bits

was there any smoke coming out of the back of the car under the original engine problem ?

Not that I know off - the brakes went hard coming down the a63 and then managed to get home and it was making a terrible noise and wouldn’t drive - hubby might be able to explain a bit more in detail what happened sorry this has been going on since March!

that reads like timing chain failure to me , rattle like hell ! very common on all the cars that use that unit , citreon , peugoet , MB , Mini and a couple of others I believe
