Oil filter being in a sensible place.
No groveling on the floor to loosen it.
No oil down the sleeve.
No oil to mop up.

Just undo bolts, lift lid and grab the "D" ring and lift out.

Very neat

Distronic is the best, :D

I only mentioned the dash tells you that you have opened the center box as the plug has been out ever since I had it, now if I open it, it tells me that I have opened it,,so great for old age motoring, Must try and remember if I am coming or going

ABS... Something Mercedes first thought of. Also, the W123 was the first production car to come with an air bag option.

One thing I like alot is the height adjustable headrests on the W124. Just pull the seat adjuster out of the seat and then you can move the head rest around on the two front seats!!

Racking a bit now as my '202 doesn't have all the hi-tech bells and whistles.

What about the captive petrol filler cap with .... a little wire cradle to fit it in when you fill up.

Nice touch, that!

And ..... what a prime place for the tyre pressures - inside the petrol flap.
You're at the Tesco's air pump & can't remember your PSI's, no rummaging around in the glove box for them!

The little clip on the boot mat that allows you to hold up the mat on the boot lid seal ,nice touch that .Beats trying to hold the boot mat up with your head when trying to fish out the spare wheel or jack .

Climate control

For me its the climate control function. No fiddling with heater and demist controls ever again. Don't know how the demist function works but I guess it has something to do with the air conditioning working as a dehumidifier.

And in the winter it doesn't operate the heater fan until warm air is available.

Nobody's mentioned the speed limiter - not seen it on any other car but a vital gizmo in these days of gatsos and average speed cameras.
I also like the ambient lighting in the E's (210 and 211 anyway). The way the floor, dash and even the door handles are gently illuminated is a real classy touch. It's so subtle I only realised it existed when I found myself reading some directions at night and suddenly thought, there's no street lights here so where's the light coming from?
I find the bonnet hinges very clever - the way they open enough but can go fully vertical at the press of a button.
The REST heater option - brilliant feature and the way it flashes when there isn't enough heat rather than just blowing cold air at you (like a Ford or Honda version would). Clever and thoughtful.
ESP - again an MB first - brilliant.
The powered door in front of the cd changer on the 211. Cool - as all teenagers who've seen it have said.

I was a big fan of the vacuum locking and clunky doors, real old fashioned class, but they've done away with those things in the 211. I also used to like the way that mercs didn't have switch blanks - giving all the cars a hand made to measure feel, but I have one on mine and the old man has 3.

Many features are now available on other cars but we all know where they first appeared!

So you know the door locking pins go down. And the lock itself? :D

With the keyless go that we have, you press the door handle button and the pins go down while you are standing there.

'Cos if anyone else tries the door when you're not in range, it won't open.

hahaha. mine did that for about 1second today. it told me the ESP was deffective and I was to visit a workshop. I thought yay. But then it went away.

Which brings me onto my point, I like the battery protection system on the 211 that disables some "convience" functions until the charge is resumed in the battery. Clever tech :D
