Coupe or Saloon. I'd have loved a car like that @ 18. Good choice.

It's the saloon, in general i tend to prefer coupes, but something about the c-class saloon appealed to me. i do often feel abit too young to be driving a Mercedes.

SL600, is this the Twin Turbo V12. IMHO a better choice than a 55. You'll love the run to Ft William. I'd advise you go via Glen Coe but return a different route, either by connel nr oban or head over to the A9 from Ft William via Spean Bridge, heading onto Lagan and emerging @ Newtonmore.

It is indeed the V12 twin turbo (or biturbo in MB speak). I thought about the SL55 but the SL600 is a much rarer beast which appealed more. Glen Coe is my usual route up to Fort William as there are stretches of road where you can, erm, you know!. I have this urge that I need to eat at the Crannog seafood restaurant and drink seaweed ale every so often and this is one of them. We always camp and you do get strange lucks when you turn in an LS460 so I'm sure the SL will attract even more looks of disbelief.

I'm travelling via St Andrews (picking up a mate) so it'll be a monster drive back home on Sunday but when your driving something nice it really doesn't matter. I'll have a look on a map with regards to your other suggested route, thanks.

Don't, your obviously wiser and more switched on than most.

Thats alright actually considering your age and the car, do your IAM test and if you pass it your premium will drop.

IMHO your bang on the money there. If I am ever lucky enough to be in the market for an SL, that would be my choice too. I am an odd one out here, but I don't care much for V8 engines, I'd rather have a 6 or a 12. Nicer more tuneful sound.

I know only too well, even my little diesel can do mad things up there, be careful re cops though ;) or we could end up reading about you in the papers because a 600 and some of these straights, big 3 digit speed is possible.

try turning off @ Tyndrum and head up towards oban, lovely road till Dalmally then its a bit flat, but turning up by connel and heading up to ft william that way is interesting. By all means come back by Glen coe, or go up by it, but its nice to have a wee change.

I'm 56.
First Merc was a black 190E 2 litre, bought when I turned 40, second hand from my younger sister (it was her company car).
I used to own new BMW's before then, but an older guy I worked with told me I would appreciate Merc's and opera more when I grew up, and he was right.
After that I had to be sensible, had an Omega estate for a long time, carting kids around.
They've grown up and gone, so I'm now on a SLK32AMG, my weekend toy. I walk to work every day, and wife has a diesel Atras estate (her choice, honest), so I don't need to be at all sensible in my car choice. The SLK ticks all the boxes for me (brutally quick, small, convertible but secure with metal roof, and very pretty too...it's yellow!). I hope to keep it for a while, and not run the miles up too high (though that's proving difficult, it's SUCH a temptation, just begging to be driven).

That yellow is a wonderful colour, it reminds me of the colours that used to be around in the 60/70s

My first car was an Ford Escort Mark II I bought at an auction at Glasgow Galloway market with 90K miles on it and I bidded it for £950. Thereafter did I realised it was an ex Glasgow police unmarked car.

My first Merc from new is a W202 I still have it and am worried it starting to rush at the wheel arches forgotten to wash off last winter salts. It still got the original exhaust.:D

Lewis's climb to Formula 1 was fairy-tale like. From a modest family in England, with a white mother and a black father, Lewis began racing go-karts at age 8. He won the McLaren Mercedes Champions of the Future series and at age 10 he met Ron Dennis, the owner and director of the McLaren Formula 1 team and told him he wanted to race in F1. At 13 years old McLaren signed Lewis up with the McLaren young driver program and the team supported his career through karting and car racing, taking him on as a full-time F1 driver starting with the 2007 season.

My first car was a Citroen BX 1.9D bought for £1300 in 1994......went through a few Hondas and Toyota Carina Es (they never break down) before buying a mean looking W210 4 years ago, since then I only take on Mercedes in my taxi fleet (we have 5 saloons now) just bought a E320 cdi ......what a car (only cost £9 to do 85 miles along the M40 to Oxford form Brum) and I'm 32.

My first car was a Fiat 128 Sport, it cost me £300 and stayed going despite the mega rust that formed almost daily. Prior to scrapping it both headlamps fell out, the bonnet (which opened the unconventional way) eventually touched the pavement and just about every electrical system jacked. Lump was still healthy when it finally went to the breakers.

I'm 48 & drive a supertidy '99 W202 - every journey is a joy.

You don't say what it is. What year, model, etc etc. Can put in your signature.

G'day
Just bought a 1998 C180 esprit in silver (dont know what this w210 ect means yet...) after my poor Alfa 156 died on me in a big loud way. Going good so far, only thing is when i stick it in reverse, the plastic bit with the electric windows buttons pops out of place.
Oh, and I'm 26 and a half

Hey all, we just bought a 260E. This is the biggest car I ever sat in. I didn't really drive for the last ten years - despite having a full EEC licence, but no money or wish to buy a car.

Meeting my partner, who owned an oldish Ford Escord back then, I kinda rethought the value of actually having a car. Last year, he had a company car - brand new Ford Focus (excellent, extremely beautiful etc), but due to change of company he had to hand that one back.

Now we have a W124 / 260E - bought off ebay, adn I have to say, I will refresh the driving licence to be able to drive this beauty!!!! The car is stunning!

I am just approaching 30 - he is slightly past that age....We may want to give the lovely "MercMobile" a bit vof *ummmpfff* again, but the question on how old Merc Owners are - well. Any age - it's a beauty!!!

Someone on here told me the only Merc under 16s can get insured is the A Class, and I don't think they would cost much as they are about 6 grand used (for the entry level new shape) and those ones have something like a 1.7 letre engine.
