I've been curious as to the general age group of us Mercedes loving people, so vote in the poll and we'll get a better idea of the age groups we belong to !

cheers

Malcom. You disappoint me! I would have thought a man of your vast life experience would have seen the answer staring you in the face?

Vote more than once. Bingo! ; -)

The older I get. The faster I was...

Anyweb. How many 16 year old MB drivers do you reckon exist!? I would guess at. Zilch. Nada. None?

Changed days indeed. My first car was a humble yet reliable Vauxhall Viva bought for £50, circa 1987. 20 years gone, just like that...

My first car was a 1964 Hillman Imp in Balmoral Grey. AKT 974B. Insurance was £49, road tax was £15 and petrol was less than £1 for 4 gallons. No radio. No heater blower. Windscreen wash was by rubber pump button and top speed was 78mph downhill with a following wind. Happy days.......
But I prefer my current C200K thanks.......

My first was a 1939 Austin 10 that I bought from a Neighbour for £10. ('Of course it's allright son! I wouldn't sell it to you if it wasn't"). Anyway, it travelled 1 mile to the MOT Station and back in 1963. They threw the book at it and I had to scrap it! Expensive motoring @ £10 a mile, BUT, I vowed "never again" and got stuck in to vehicle mechanics. Saved an absolute fortune over the next 40 or so years!

First car was a 1962 Landrover series 2a Long Wheel base Safari 2.2 Diesel (54bhp 2.3 tonnes). It was 10 years older than me! Known as Rigby (reg was 230 ELR - Elanor Rigby). I kept it 15 years, and wish I still had it today! In all probability it is still going - swapped it for 100 hours of welding work on a house boat

No power breaks (drums alround), no power steering, no syncro on 1st and 2nd gear - you really had to drive that car, stopping quickly was a challenge. However, I learned alot about rebuilding engines, gear box, suspension etc.

Had a great time with Rigby - this was the ultimate party mobile for a teenager, 3 seats in the front, 4 on the back seat, 4 on the benches in the boot - I guess that it was also much safer than a metro or Polo etc. At its peak, I was doing 10,000miles a year... very slowly
