Independent specialists - Chester area?

Hi,

I need to service my recently purchased W123 230CE (1982) and wonder whether anyone can recommend a good outfit in the Chester area (happy to travel up to 20-30 miles if need be) for this and other work.
I realise that the servicing could be done pretty much by anyone but I'm anticipating that other work will follow and would prefer to build a relationship with somebody good rather than take pot luck - not necessarily an MB specialist - just a good, honest, sensibly priced mechanic.

I also have some minor bodywork that needs doing so again any recommendations welcomed

For servicing the nearest I've come across is Auto Barn - see this post: http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/863633-post11.html

I *think* this is the place where normally you get an answerphone but they do call back. If you do use them then some feedback would be appreciated - there not much in the way of recommendations in this area.

There also a place in Deeside, MB Motors, but seen very mixed reports.

MB Tech in Warrington comes up quite a bit but I sense some uncertaintly about them recently.

try MB MOTORS on the sealand industrial estate in sealand mate, ive used them once an seemed pretty good, prices are pretty reasonable aswell.

I recommended Autobarn. Andy is an absolute diamond and really knows his stuff. Works on all models, full diagnostics and extremely well-equipped garage. If the answerphone is on it's usually because he's working on a car. Just leave a message and he will get back to you. He's worked on two of my cars and his work is top notch - I've seen him do it.

Personally owns a C43, W107, W123 CE, W201 and probably a few more I haven't seen.

Cannot recommend him highly enough, though you'll have to book ahead as he's always very busy.

To be honest I've only ever tried the one over in Carr lane - MB Wirral when I had the W203 , a simple service escalated to silly levels and I didn't feel overly comfortable.
The other 2 including the one in Cheshire oaks I haven't tried, but through the forum I have heard good things about MB Tech and they appear to have more experience with the performance beasts, hence my inclination . If anyone has differing experience of the Wirral lot i'd be happy to hear it- would save me some travel for sure!

Hi there a lot of you will know me personally but for the others i will introduce myself.
My name is Andy and i own AutoBarn Mercedes specialists.
I know a lot of people are struggling to get hold of me via my landline and feel i need to explain why.
I run my business on my own and due to the nature of my business am often called out to look at customers projects/breakdowns at their own premises.
Due to this i am not always on the premises to answer the landline and the message service quickly fills up with missed calls.
I have now made the decision to retire my landline number and change to a mobile phone only.
I initially rejected this idea due to the unprofessional image it portrayed but am now forced to carry this out due to the way my business has progressed.

I still offer the same services as before and still run my business premises,the only change will be a phase out of my landline over the coming months.
