I spotted a W140 for the first time in a while - you expect old cars to look tiny compared to todays but they are still effing huge!

Yep proper cars, for full size people, with good visibility, generous interior room unlike being stuck in a claustrophobic home cinema. Built with proper materials too.

Thought I would post this here as well with another... Palm Springs and Rodeo Drive respectively....

XJ220, I soiled myself a number of years ago when this passed me, thought to take a quick pic. Never seen one before or since. View attachment 80561
MrsLK's work has about half a dozen of them!

They've also currently got an XJ15 which is lovely.

This used to be a frequent visitor a few doors away from our old place. IIRC one of the local business owners owned it. It may have been one of the body shops folks as they had the James Bond XKRs in for some for work too.

Today I saw a Rover 8 series? Coupe like the one below, in the same colour, on the M69. It seemed to be driving well and also look in decent shape with no rust etc.

I also saw silver Jag XKR 4.2 in silver like the one below, cruising in lane 1 going past Coalville on the M1, probably trying to get half decent mpg on his road trip.

It stood out beautifully, none of the modern gibberish on the M1 could compete. Simple curves all round that look elegant now, no fake trim bs, and clearly not styled by the half wits who style modern stuff. It brought back memories and for a few seconds, I thought about buying another, as I caught and passed it, recalling I sold mine as as it was cramped for me. As I went past, the driver was also tall and clearly struggling for head room and looked like I used to. I had to hoot him and give him a thumbs up which he appreciated.

I do remember the hatchbacks as I begged my mum to buy one on a daily basis back in the day, when I was in my early teens or so. I just never recall seeing the coupe in this model.

I was once lent a standard 827 Rover as a courtesy car. It needed a football field & a bit to do a U turn and talk about understeer!

How super. I had one, 1999 T registered. Was so cheap to buy used, bought as a get me by about 2003, kept for 8 years which surprised me! Lovely engine note but fragile. A nice place to be with beautiful (real) cream leather seats like barges! Quite a rarity nowadays.

They just don’t make large comfortable cars these days, they all have to be “sporty” with huge wheels that ruin the ride quality. They then spend £££££££ trying to design suspension to cope (and fail). I blame motoring journalists

I had an 827 Vitesse hatchback for a number of years, Honda V6 engine, lovely car in good condition, wife got upset when it approached 100k miles and insisted I trade it in - which eventually I did for an 820 turbo vitesse in BRG. Car was in such good condition that despite its age and mileage Rover Hastings took it in PX and forecourted it! Have kicked myself many times over the years for submitting to wife's moaning! The 820 vitesse is the car that out of all the motors I've had over the years cost me more in our 18 months ownership than any other - PX'x it 18 monthes after purchase for something like 8K less than I'd paid for it, then about 6 monthis later got contact from the new owner wanting me to pay for the result of a head gasket failure - you can guess where I told him to go!

Cheeky of him! Those O series Rover engines were good, HG's failing weren't common. How things have moved on. That V6 in my old Coupe could churn out 175hp and the average 1.5 can do that now! The Honda lump was warship built.

The average 1.5ltr engines sound like their internals have already given up and I won’t be expecting to see them roaming the highways in 30yrs time!
