The average 1.5ltr engines sound like their internals have already given up and I won’t be expecting to see them roaming the highways in 30yrs time!

The average 1.5ltr engine is now a 3-pot and the one in my Mini Cooper was surprisingly good - but I agree that it probably wouldn’t last 30 years!

In 2 years of R class ownership I've only seen 2 or 3 'in the wild' but this weekend driving through France saw 2 in one day!
Funnily enough both were on English plates too!
One was a 350CDI facelift same as ours but in black and the other a petrol 350. Both were 'making progress' as we cruised at 65 due to two large rattan sun loungers on the roof that dropped our mpg from it's usual 37-42 down to 31mpg.
And this time MrsLK really did bring the kitchen sink. That was in the boot (and we still had the middle row seats in use).

Yes, me too, and that lovely V8 burble as they cruise past.

I love seeing well preserved old cars generally, larger ones have such presence when surrounded by today's characterless tin boxes. Yesterday I was driving locally when I saw that a tidy looking 1960s MB 190 was following. He followed me into a car park, and I was able to have a good look, it was an unmolested 190E in what appeared to be perfect condition. I was struck by how compact it appeared mext to my C Class, it must have been at least a foot shorter, lower and inches narrower. Years ago, a family friend had a similar one when they first came out, a real status symbol back then among Cortinas and Victors. He loved the quality of the thing, but his family felt squeezed travelling in the back. He used to joke that Mercedes had produced the Word's first four door two seater.

I have one, 190E is the W201 much later car.
In UK import tax made the 190 (W121) cost about same as a 3.8ltr Jaguar
W120, W121 1953 to 1962
I had a 190B in East Africa from 1961 to 1968, very strong cars and registered in 3 different counties.

My elderly neighbour has a few thousand mile Audi A8 in his garage, he bought it new in I think 2016.

It is as new but what do you do with such a barge?

His wife's Lexus is storming towards 20,000 miles :)

Something for our children?
