Hello, chaps.

A symptom which has occurred 3 times since I bought the car, under identical circumstances, both before and after my remap(s):

I stop at a motorway service station (30mins to 1hr, not really counting) then floor the throttle on the slip road to rejoin the motorway. On EVERY occasion, the car has started kangaroo-ing violently. If I ease back on the throttle, the kangaroo-ing stops and the car drives normally for the rest of the journey. This only ever happens if I boot the throttle immediately after the engine has been at rest.

Other (perhaps related symptoms), again both before and after the remap/s:

Pulling away from rest or at junctions etc, there is regularly a delay between pressing the throttle and drive being taken up with a bit of a lurch. I would call it turbo lag if it wasn't so far down the rev range. It makes for jerky getaways and I can't believe that this is how a Mercedes is supposed to behave.

Other relevant factors:

98000 miles with FMBSH
Gearbox fully serviced at 93500 miles
No codes
1 Glow Plug, fuel filter and air filters replaced at 96000 miles
Fuel-cleaning additives regularly used

Before I get this to a garage, are you guys able to offer any pointers? Could it be the high-pressure fuel pump? Is that something you can test on the car?

As always, advice appreciated.

My C320 did this on occasion, but would go into limp usually.
After much reading, here and t'other place, I considered that the turbo actuator might be the problem??

I reckon glow plug actuator sticking as well , it has happened maybe 4 times on my car , probably between 40-80k miles .
Has not happened for 6 years now (50k miles )
Hours job to take the actuator off and spray clean the carbon gunk out . Small amount of high temp grease on the worm gear as well . You have nothing to lose but an hours time .

So that link to your other thread: is that to clean the TURBO actuator or the GLOW PLUG actuator? I know nothing about actuators... :(

Turbo actuator buddy , the black box on the side of the turbo by the batwing thingy .
The glow plug thingy is a relay , that’s not your cars fault .

These were in dry conditions, booting it from about 20-30 mph to merge with fast-moving traffic. No ESP light comes on. My first thought was fuel-delivery but I'm interested in M80's and Wighty's suggestions...

No dash indication with my scenario.
I didn't have access to a code reader though. There may have been codes logged??

on my father's if you disconnect the link rod, the vanes on the turbo will literally fall back and forth

but common failure on a VW, its normal to gum up and cause the actuator to fail - didn't know but the make a shaving foam cleaner you spray on to un-gum it, I guess its no better than over cleaner - and the of course EGR gums up and blows its brains

maybe the 50 50 water meth I squirted in helped clean it up

Electrical contact cleaner does a good job on actuator gunk

Had exactly the same thing a few years ago on my W211 320CDi. If I remember correctly, it was something to do with a faulty boost pressure sensor in the exhaust? Anyway, took it to MBS who fixed/cahnged it and all good from then on.

the exhaust back pressure sensor does fail - £50 at Merc dealer and is really easy to fit (its the bit that tells the VGT actuator what to do). I thought they fail yes or no

OK; following Wighty's advice, it looks fairly easy to give the turbo actuator a good clean.

As for the pressure sensor, though, where is that located on an OM642 and is it a DIY job?

Bolted to the top of turbo, easy DIY, small metallic sensor

Many thanks. Have you got a pic of the sensor so I know exactly what to look for?
